Is £2,500 for a 10 night holiday 'cheap'?

So I've just added up the cost of our holiday, based on realistic costs from menus and taxi quotes, hotel costs, flight costs etc. This includes all costs I can think about other than souvenirs. Staying at good 3* hotels, with no self catering.

It's for two adults. So it's £1,250 each. Would you say that's cheap or an expensive holiday? Trying to settle a debate with my sister!

Obviously it depends on your personal budget/priorities, I get that! But I thought £2,500 for 10 nights all in, was quite good.

Are you flying from France or from the UK?

From the U.K, via Charles de Gaulle & Port a Prince (so through Gwada). But surely the cross channel leg is a small part of the ticket price?

Really depends. UK taxes are very very high on flights, so can sometimes work out cheaper to start outside. We have travelled extensively in French overseas regions, and have found we can save money by doing a night in Paris first.

If you can get to Paris and fly from Orly, there are flights for around £470 if you can travel at the right time/book in a sale.

Hmm interesting. Thanks for that .

Anyway, it sounds very good value. Well done for bagging all that at that price. Have a lovely holiday.

Op, your latest post suggests you have a lot of experience of travel to the area so why are you asking here if your trip is cheap?

Thereoughttobeclowns · 20/06/2023 15:03

10 nights in the Caribbean for 2.5k? I’d say that is a bargain. For context, we spent 8.5k on 10 nights in Barbados at end of feb.

Because your own travel can become habits/or you don't keep track of how others spend/ things cost if done different ways.

As I said in the OP. Was trying to settle with my sister, whether people generally agreed that it was a decent price or if I had lost touch with the reality of costs.

Sounds like a bargain to me for Caribbean including flights. I would budget at least £100 a day for food alone so that's 50% gone. Flights min £500 (in the sale) so that's budget all gone without a room to sleep in!

I know what you mean about losing touch with reality and having to check yourself, I do this!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 20/06/2023 16:52

Yes I'd say it's cheap

yut · 20/06/2023 16:55

Seems a good price to me, wouldn't call it "cheap" but would say it's good value for what you're getting.

daysleepers · 20/06/2023 17:30

It's not bad.. but it depends on time of year massively.

We went to a European country AI for 1 week but for 2 adults and 2 teens .. £2200 and was actually a 5*!

Recently went to another European country for us 4 but B&B and spent just over £3k all in. We do like to hunt down for a cheapish holiday and do lots of searches and date/ time changes etc

Where and when was the 5* one?

Bertiesmum3 · 24/10/2023 13:36

That’s a great price
we usually pay around 4k for 2 adults going to either Egypt, Turkey or Cyprus

Nodashians · 24/10/2023 13:48

I’d say it was good value for that holiday.

HeavenKnowsIamMiserableNow · 24/10/2023 13:53

We are paying that for a three bedroomed apartment in Spain next August?September, we got the flights cheap because I booked BA the day they came on sale.

On top of that we will have food, days out and copious amounts of cocktails.

We are having a hard year, so I really don’t care what the final figure is, and if you knew how sensible I am with money ordinarily you would know just how bad a year it has been. 😂

HeavenKnowsIamMiserableNow · 24/10/2023 13:54

Oh bugger just realised I posted on a zombie thread, sorry everyone.

HopAPot · 24/10/2023 13:55

10 days! Yes that’s very cheap.

That's really cheap. 3 of us going to the US earlier this year cost 3 times that.
