Foodie break

Marmalade71 · 19/06/2023 20:15

I asked DP if he fancied going away for a few days for his 50th, which is in October. He's thrown me a bit by being more prescriptive than I expected - he wants a "foodie break". I don't think he literally means a cooking course, more somewhere we can relax by the pool but also take in a couple of high end restaurants.

So...suggestions for best foodie locations that will still be warmish early October??
Dont really want to spend more than £2k all in for 5 nights.

Lots of places in Italy, Amalfi coast or Sardinia?

Napa Valley. Obviously eat at The French Laundry on 'the day', but then a few of the vineyards have decent restaurants or head into San Francisco.

DH and I are foodies and some places we have enjoyed:
Porto and / or Lisbon (there is a great direct train between them)
Seville (it was really hot still when we went there in October)
Marrakesh
Barcelona
Milan
Madrid

We booked guided food tours in Barcelona, Marrakesh and Porto and they were all fantastic.

Madeira & Sardinia both have good Michelin * restaurants

San Sebastián - one of the foodie cities of the world. Huge range of food from Michelin restaurants to Pintxos bars. Day trip to Rioja available if he’s also into wine.

What about a trip to Jose Pizarros place in Spain?

I came on to say San Sebastián

It's the definition of a foodie place

Porto
San Sebastián
Malaga - Jose Carlos Garcia is delicious (and Michelin started)
Cordoba- Noor is delicious as above and will be warmer in October. The city is very moorish, gorgeous and you could also tie in with a visit to the hamam.
