We've booked flights from Heathrow in summer - thought BA was good ,- but now seeing other of horrendous reviews of BA cancelling etc - still have option to cancel flights- what would you do?

They are my second least favourite airline. I believe RyanAir are worse but I’ve had too many bad experiences with BA. The worse thing about then is if you are entitled to compensation, you can’t get through to customer services and it takes forever to sort out.

@Twiglets1 what I don't like about their call center is that you first need to listen to all their messages and suggestions to do things online when you know it's not possible. After that you can hear that calls are monitored etc. and then with a very slow voice hear the options. Finally the phone will ring twice to tell you to call again later as they are experiencing high volume. Have they not heard of the invention of a call queue? That way I could at least have it on loudspeaker telling me that I'm the 16th in the queue and I could do something useful in the meantime...

I've flown BA pretty much monthly with work for quite a few years and never had a major issue like you see on the news stories/threads. I'd take BA over other airlines any day!

...the least likely to help you when it goes tits up because they don’t EVER answer the phone

I know the reputation is poor but for info I had to contact BA with regard to passport/APIS problem a few weeks back and from first dialling to problem fixed took less than 20 minutes...

Granted when I had a voucher that required manual calculation the sales line answered and sorted it.

However, if it’s where’s my lost luggage, where’s my compensation because you owe me £5000, the flight you’ve rebooked me on isn’t suitable etc etc then I found they don’t ever answer. But hey maybe it’s changed massively in the last 3 months so I could be way out of date. My last 2 flights with them went well, only an hour-ish delayed and that was on air traffic control apparently so not their fault (for once).

Have flown with BA at least 20 times with no issues whatsoever.

I'm flying BA this summer and not particularly looking forward to it. Will the industrial action only impact LHR or LGW too?

StillWantingADog · 20/06/2023 20:37

I don’t think they are any worse than anyone else

I swore by Easyjet before they cancelled our flight home mid holiday and left us to fend for ourselves. Got home with a massive car hire and hotel bill- they eventually paid up but it took MONTHS

Like lots of review sites, you tend to hear of people's bad luck stories. People tend to talk about when it went wrong in some way. You don't tend to hear so much about when a service is delivered in the way it's supposed to.
So most of the noise is negative - and are you able to accurately decide what is noise, what's the truth, and what's likely to happen to you.

If you can cancel at nil or minimal cost, and can get exactly what you need elsewhere - great. The only problem is that you'll never guarantee that the new airline and / or new airports will never have an issue either.
