Where would you go for 2 weeks?

I’m looking for ideas as we’re going round in circles.
We’ve booked the first 2 weeks of August 2024 off work for our summer holiday as we’re constrained by other events.
I can’t work out where the heck to go. Ideally it would be one place. We don’t drive. Needs to be in Britain or Europe. Me, DH a 10yo DS.
All ideas gratefully received.

If you don’t care then just go into a travel agent and see what they can come up with

Greece.

MinnieMountain · 17/06/2023 19:10

I know it’s a wide question, that’s why I wanted to ask actual people for inspiration.
What’s the point of that comment @ssd ?

Greece, Portugal, Spain, Malta, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy the list is endless.

What's your budget?

Do you like really hot weather?

Beach?

Self catering? Half board? All inclusive?

MinnieMountain · 17/06/2023 19:16

Not really hot. I’d rather avoid all inclusive. Beach would be nice so long as there were other things to do too.
Budget somewhere in the middle.

I'd probably go to a beach resort in Northern France, or some sort of Euro camp place.

MinnieMountain · 17/06/2023 19:21

Eurocamp is a good idea @coxesorangepippin .

I don’t know how it would fit budget wise but if you like beach and certain types of acrivities (watersports, tennis, cycling etc.), I’d be looking at Neilson or Mark Warner holidays. Greece would always be my first choice but Sardinia also nice, or Corsica if they have any there still.

I would never go the Med in August! Far too busy and hot. I would look at Brittany/Normandy/the Alps, possibly the Netherlands beaches or Black Forest/Bavaria. Beach/lakes plus lots of sight seeing opportunities.

I was in Greece last August expecting it to be scorching and it really wasn't. Corfu is nice, and has a combination of beach and places of interest, and also has a decent bus system. We didn't have a car while we were there.

Lordofmyflies · 17/06/2023 20:38

If you don't want really hot in August, I think Greece, Spain, Italy are out. How about Switzerland? Perhaps near a lake. Lots of walk, you could fly to Geneva and excellent transport links.

Greece
So many islands to choose from and also so much on the mainland too.

Britinme · 18/06/2023 13:55

Mainland USA lot cheaper than the islands. Lots of coach trips available to tourist spots. Public transport in Athens is good - we had a hotel on the seafront for a few days with a nice beach and a tram that went straight into the heart of the city.

Britinme · 18/06/2023 13:55

Sorry that should be mainland Greece is...
