Ryanair - do you get seated with your family if you book the most basic tickets?

We’ve got the cheapest of the cheap tickets - no selection of seat beforehand and they get allocated to us when we turn up at the airport. When we had the option to pay extra for seat selection, it warned us that if we didn’t cough up we most likely wouldn’t be sitting together. Just wondering whether they really do that though.

@GulesMeansRed we don't really have a choice about Ryanair. They are the only people to fly from our regional airport to lots of destinations. The alternative is three hours extra car journey to an alternative airport.

The allocate by least popular seat - which makes most business sense.

people who haven’t paid get pit in tbt seats less often paid for, leaving the remaining “better” seats for people who might still pay.

So sometimes you end up together, or in extra leg room seats, because they’re the next available ones in the algorithm

Or you could have just sat next to them?

Ha! That really made me laugh. As if she didn't think of that!

I think they do do it deliberately.

We went on a big family holiday last summer, four adults and five teenagers and we went on eight Ryan Air flights touring about and we were seated separately on every single flight. Which was fine in our situation. But statistically that doesn't make sense if it's not deliberate.
