Alcudia or Costa de Almeria

Hi
I’ve got Alcudia booked Siesta 1 but starting to have doubts and thinking it may not be what we’re looking for. We could change and go to Mojacar, Best Pueblo Indalo. I have a 3 and a 5 year old and want a nice resort but not too busy.
many advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

When are you going? Costa Almeria can be scorching and the heat is very dry and uncomfortable (would be v hard with little ones).

Rainbows2018 · 14/06/2023 15:38

@MrsVeryTired august thank you. That’s good to know

Alcudia is awful

Rainbows2018 · 14/06/2023 16:31

@GhostsAgain why?

Alcudia was pretty Blackpool-like when we went, and that was over 30 years ago. It has a huge, flat beach, but the place itself was pretty unremarkable.

Also, anywhere in the Med is going to be very hot in August.

I've just come back from costa almeria. It is not great. The landscape is absolutely swathed in plastic agricultural poly tunnels, there is graffiti everywhere, the old town of Mojocar is pretty but thete is not much there.

There are literally beaches and bars and restaurants. That's it.

Alcudia has a really beautiful old town, fantastic beaches, you can go loads of trips, the sea is lovely for little ones.
There is no comparison.
Majorca every time!

RampantIvy · 14/06/2023 16:38

Isn't the old town some distance from Puerto Alcudia?

Highlyflavouredgravy · 14/06/2023 16:39

It's a short bus riide

LadyEloise1 · 14/06/2023 16:46

Why not go to Puerto Pollensa the next resort to Alcudia but much nicer and a big hit on Mumsnet for people with small children.
It will be hot in August though.

Yes i thought this but assumed op had already booked. Puerto pollensa is beautiful and much nicer than alcudia

Rainbows2018 · 14/06/2023 17:15

@LadyEloise1 it’s already booked and even if we could change we need a two rooms so we’re a bit restricted, nothing coming up in Pollensa

I feel your pain @Rainbows2018
It happened to us - we couldn't get anything in Puerto Pollensa so took an apartment in Alcudia. It was grand but I wouldn't go back.

friendlycat · 16/06/2023 00:09

I would pick Mojacar. But it’s very subjective. What’s making you question Alcudia in the first place? It’s not for me at all. Puerto Pollensa yes. There would be other places in Majorca that could work for you as well.

I like Mojacar and it’s vibe. But admittedly I’ve been Easter times not height of Summer. Personally I would say it’s got far more Spanish charm than Alcudia, but old Alcudia is different to the main drag full of all inclusive hotels.
Many Spanish holiday in Mojacar, but it does also have a thriving expat community. Fabulous beach, loads of restaurants and bars but in a low key way. The Best Pueblo Indalo is also a very good location. The prom and beach stretches for miles. Nice beach bars, family friendly, low key shopping, low rise resort etc. It’s not an all inclusive type resort at all.

Can’t really comment enough without knowing what you are looking for in a holiday.

MrsVeryTired · 16/06/2023 19:43

To clarify (as someone mentioned everywhere in the med is hot in August) we have been to many areas of the med to holiday and Almeria was uncomfortably hot, not just regular hot
