Holiday with a 7 month old

Hi,
Quick question - when holidaying abroad (tenerife) with a baby, do people usually take their car seat?
I'm concerned about the bus from the airport to the hotel and then obviously back again (do package holidays provide a carseat?) but also with taxis to go into town, do they sometimes have car seats?
Anyone any ideas? Thanks

Can you hire one? I seem to remember flying with DS around this age and hiring one.

Most car hire companies' car seats are pretty poor condition. Normally you can bring a car seat for free on an airline. I'd recommend wrapping it up and putting it in a box so it doesn't get damaged.

Just a couple of points car seat probably wouldn't fit on coach seat. And if you get a taxi into town you would need to factor on carrying car seat around or risk never seeing it again.

Do you not have a pram with detachable seat for the car? Could you borrow one? Then no need to carry iy

You can't usually put a car seat on a coach cause of the seat belts, you usually just holdthe baby on your lap

Caspianberg · 14/06/2023 19:05

Baby won’t be allocated a seat on coach, under 2 will be lap only.

Personally I take own car seat, and with a baby wouldn’t use the coach transfer but make own private arrangements either a taxi transfer or hire car for holiday anyway

We booked a transfer from airport to hotel when DS was young and ordered a baby car seat for him. We didn’t travel anywhere while there that he couldn’t just stay in his pushchair.

Thanks everyone. Was thinking that about the couch so I think we'll play it safe and hire a taxi instead. The problem with taking a car seat is the taxi situation like someone said, if we took a taxi into town we'd have to carry it about. We do have one that clips in to the wheels of the buggy but its so padded that it would be too warm i think and we have a travel buggy that lies flat so he can sleep in it so we decided on taking that instead. Absolute minefield!

Also keen to hear what other people do. Due to the issues described above we have so far only been on one holiday where we could travel everywhere by train with the buggy and another holiday where we have hired a car and brought our own seat with us. A lot of places allow babies to travel by taxi without a car seat but of course it’s not a very safe way to travel.

We have always taken car seats and booked private transfers
