Mid to late September

Hi all
Some advice please, lovely people.
My last 4 holidays have been to the Canaries so it's one place I'm looking to avoid. I'm also trying to avoid too long a flight so I've also ruled out Cyprus unless someone can rave about a particular part of the island and twists my arm.
Hoping to book a 10 day holiday, leaving mid September. Where will it most likely still be hot and busy-ish?
Went to Skiathos this time of year a few years ago and it rained for 5.5 days out of 7 and whole island had practically shut down for season. So this is the kind of holiday I'm trying to avoid too.
Ibiza, anyone? Playa Es Cana? Bit too old for Bosaa, I think.
Or maybe Portugal? Went in May once and it wasn't too warm but not sure bout september.
Of course, I know there are no guarantees when it comes to sunshine.

We went to the French Riviera in early October and it was beautiful - Nice, Cannes, St Tropez etc. We stayed on a site with a pool, and we had it to ourselves most of the time! I think September would be ideal there.

Thank you.
I have to add that we're looking for something not too expensive as we've just booked a big holiday for next year and most of our holiday savings will be going on that.
I'm looking at £2500 tops for two of us.

Crete might be worth looking at. It's so far south the season goes on longer than many other Greek destinations. Around Chania, which is very pretty, or Elounda, further east (you'd probably fly into Herakleion) are lovely, with various side trips possible, eg to the Samaria Gorge or Knossos.

I went to Turkey the one year the end of September and it was scorching.

We had glorious weather in the algarve in mid September.

then went in June and it was a bit too hot!

AlbaAurora · 13/06/2023 19:52

Another for Crete. Went in late October/early November and it was still hot and felt very in season still without the crowds.

Stayed in Rethymno a beautiful old town and not massively touristy.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm going to take a look at all suggestions. I'd already been looking at Crete but I think the transfer time on top of flight might have put me off a little.
Portugal is looking a little more hopeful.
I'd still like to hear of anyone's experiences of Ibiza at that time of year, if anyone can help

We’re going to Mykonos for 10 days in early to mid September. I think it’s risky to go any later than that. We got caught out in Santorini a couple of years ago when we went in late Sept/early Oct, it was already quite cool and windy.

I would also recommend Sicily that time of year.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/06/2023 21:03

South of Spain - maybe Seville or Cadiz? It's too hot in July and August. We went in September and I remember one of those big outdoor temperature displays showing 30 degrees at 8 in the evening (it is regularly 40+ earlier in the year). Also as they are proper towns they don't shut down at the end of the tourist season.

The flight difference between flying to Crete and flying to paphos is only 30 mins! (This is assuming from Gatwick)

I really wouldn't rule out Cyprus. We went last year for a couple of days for a wedding and we loved it. So much that this year we're going with our two children (will be 3 and 7m old) in September. Weather is lovely that time of year and definitely able to book for 2.5k

I would reconsider, it's a beautiful place. Food is one of the best we've had abroad, great weather, nice people

Fortheloveofus · 13/06/2023 23:01

@febbabies2023 thank you. I am tempted by Cyprus. Whereabouts did you go? What was the transfer time from airport?

I'm not sure what you mean about the transfer times putting you off Crete

We fly into Charnia International, it's a 23 min drive to a beautiful hotel on the Venetian Harbour.

All types of hotels and villas around

@Fortheloveofus we went to Aphrodite hills last time. I'll be honest I can't remember what the transfer time was out there as I'd had a few too many drinks 🤦🏽‍♀️ but on the way back was about 40 mins
Our transfer this time is about 30/40 mins again but we're staying somewhere different this time :)

In terms of holiday I think Greece and Cyprus look quite similar!

Protaras, Cyprus

The beach is beautiful and it will be hot
