Cheap Surf Spot Accommodation - Europe

Looking to meet my sister and her family in Europe next summer. Likely to be August (I know 🙈). They are flying in from California and we are flying from the north of England. We are looking at San Sebastián or somewhere north coast that has good surfing (this requirement is non-negotiable). I know it's the most expensive time to travel but is there anywhere we can look for cheap accommodation? Where do the locals stay? Hotels and Airbnb all look quite pricey. We'd be up for a caravan (although not sure if that would be too hot?). Are there other locations we should consider that are cheaper? It's 4 adults and 3 kids (14, 7 and 7 next summer).

San Vicente. Beautiful town, great beach with surf, campsite on the beach if that works for you.

Have you considered Portugal? My cousin has this lovely place and they also offer surfing and yoga lessons.

Thank you. I'll have a look. Surf lessons not required. We are all native Southern Californians!

Biarritz in France is another popular European surfing spot.

San Vicente sounds like a good shout. There are lovely surfing beaching around Bilbao and it is cheaper than San Sebastián/Biarritz

@isthisit83 I'd head west of Santander, you'll likely get a bit less localism, and if it's flat you'll be a bit closer to the Picos.

Or Portugal.

Cote sauvage in France, lots of campsites try Les Mathes or La Palmyre. The surf schools pick you up each morning and bus out to the best spots. You don't have to have lessons.

Oh and caravan will be fine. Your biggest issue is going to be availability.
