Last minute holiday preparation

We've not booked a holiday for this year, so are going to take a chance booking a cheap last minute deal (we have a Uk back up if this doesn't work out).

What should we do in advance to be ready to jump on a plane with only a couple of days notice?

So far I've:

  • checked passports are in date with enough time until expiry
  • made sure we have enough clothes/swimwear/towels
  • got a list of things to cancel (regular food/milk deliveries)

Not yet sorted travel insurance, in case we can't get a deal. How long does it take to arrange normally?

Is there anything I've forgotten?

Global Health Insurance Card
Check where you are with supply of any prescription mess
Packing lists
Do you have travel insurance with your bank account or credit card?
Get a credit/debit card that you can use overseas without fees.
Check driving licences up to date

Maybe do some planning/discussing what it is you'll be looking for in the cheap deals/locations to consider.

Good call!
We have the global health cards & overseas credit cards, but will look into the others.

Pretty sure I don't have travel insurance as part of bank accounts etc but worth checking.

Suncream, toiletries, snacks and first aid stuff? (although at most airports you can now place a pickup order to collect from Boots once you go through security)
