Where would you go for the month of February?

I'm thinking of going away for the whole of Feb, I'll have finished a big project at work and have had a rough year. I've got tons of leave to use up, somewhere warmish, travelling as a 50 odd year old woman alone.

I've thought about Malta, Granada, and not really anywhere else yet.

I won't be driving so I need to get from the airport and trains/public transport to do things.

Not planning anything hectic, gentle walks and seeing whatever happens to be open, relaxing with a few books mostly!

I'd say Cape town but see you want Europe.
How about Lisbon? Stunning city. Super relaxed vibe, not expensive, good weather and food. I could imagine being very happy there for a month.

Goa in India is a nice place to escape the February blues

Soproudoflionesses · 11/06/2023 21:56

Cyprus sounds perfect for you op.

Flimpychunk · 11/06/2023 22:08

Madeira! We loved it there when we went in march - it is really magical

I third Seville/Granada/Cadiz.
Andalusia is beautiful, interesting and with fantastic food and wine. Hire a car and explore.

I'd choose the Canaries or Madeira.

Not Lisbon it'll be cold and wet in February. It rains a lot in Lisbon in winter.

If you want close. Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria. Small, lovely. Marina, fishing harbour. Cosmopolitan. Laid back. Easy to get buses and ferries to other places. Ideal for what you want.

Many Scandinavians winter there.

Puerto de Mogan is pretty, but it's very small and toursity and I wouldn't want to spend a month there. It's also at the end of the main road, so if you wanted to spend a day in Las Palmas it's a hike from PdM, particularly if you're going to be relying on public transport. Just take a look on Google Maps and you'll see what I mean.

I'd stay somewhere better connected if I was going for a month, and honestly I think I'd go somewhere with more culture and more going on. The Canaries generally have nice, warm weather in the winter, but there isn't a huge amount to do, but it depends what you're looking for.

Hobbesmanc · 13/06/2023 18:04

February is just a bit risky for Europe apart from the Canaries. Morocco gets mixed feedback here but I've only ever had great experiences

Essaouira on the coast is so pretty and should be a gentle breezy twenty degrees. Tangiers, Marrakesh, Fez, Casablanca all doable by train.

midsomermurderess · 13/06/2023 19:16

Crete might be worth looking at. It's so far south the season goes on longer than many other Greek destinations. Around Chania, which is very pretty, or Elounda, further east (you'd probably fly into Herakleion) are lovely, with various side trips possible, eg to the Samaria Gorge or Knossos.
