Holiday to Beaches Jamaica with DD - what water should be used to make milk?

I'm off on hols with my 3 month old baby soon and am unsure what type of water I should use to make up her bottles! Health advisor said I should just boil local tap water instead of boiling mineral water, but I always thought you should use a low sodium content mineral water instead.

Please can you help with any advice? If I should use mineral water do you know what water is available at the Beaches Resort/sodium content?

Thanks in advance.

I think there is advice on this on the Milton website www.milton-tm.com. I seem to remember. I was in West indies with DS when he was 4 months old and seem to remember I got the info off their website. The low sodium thing rings a bell. Sorry it's a bit of a distant memory now but I seem to remember I put the tap water through a filter jug then decanted it into a 5 litre plastic bottle and added a Milton tablet to it following the instructions on the tablets for sterilsing water. Boxes of Milton tablets are readily avaiable in Sainsbrys/chemists, etc. but don't rely on getting anything like that in Jamaica-take it with you. I found the tablets easier than boiling as you just chuck them in the water and wait the alloted time; hey presto, sterilised water. I think that's what i did; long time ago now, well two years ago. The mineral waters out there all seemed to have different sodium content and some didn't even tell you what the content was on the labels. Also I remember taking the cartons of SMA with me as well so no need to add water. Have fun!!

I also threw a load of Steri-Bottles in the suitcase; made things hassle free. (Pre packaged ready sterilised bottles)

hi - which beaches are you going to. we took dd1 to beaches negril but she was over one so not on formula. hiwever we tookher to kingston at 5 monthes as we used to live and work there and i had to go back to work briefly. i don't remember doing anything except boiling the water. the water quality in jamaica isn't too bad.

ps sorry about typing have 10 week old dd2 in arms.

Thanks for the advice Peasoup. I'll definitely take some of the sterilising tablets with us.

Claraquitetirednow - we are off to Boscobel. Lucky you living & working there! Good to hear the waters ok! Thanks.

Not so lucky as we lived in Kingston - murder capital of the world!
However it was great to escape to the beaches at the weekend!
