Hi all,

Looking to book a family holiday for next September.

Potentially a small villa for myself, DP, DMIL & 2 DD ( 2.5 and 1)

Don't want to travel too far, were in Scotland. So looking at Portugal.

Can anyone recommend any areas in Portugal?

Saw the algarve (carvoeiro) but don't want to book the first place we see.

Looking for somewhere peaceful, but with a lovely warm atmosphere for families. Plenty of places to explore and have lunch etc.

Thanks so much. X

Also Tavira in Eastern Algarve.

Alvor was lovely.

We've just got back from 2 weeks in Armacao de Pera, big family group, age range 1 - 65, all loved the area, so much to do, Carvoeiro also nice. The children loved Zoo Marine, sure yours would too, about 15 mons from our Villa.

Tavira or Alvor are both lovely.

We used to take the kids to Vilamoura a lot when they were little. Short transfer to Faro, marina is great, nice beaches etc. Menorca also nice

Olhos D'Agua is a favourite of ours'. Nice beach and lots of family friendly bars and places to eat. Only around half an hour from Faro too.

So many great suggestions. Thanks all.

If anyone booked a villa, can I ask who you booked with? I was looking at Jet 2, however couldn't see any reviews.

i would recommend Praia de Luz. We have had many happy holidays with our DS when they were little. Lovely sandy beach, rock pools, calm sea, promenade with great restaurants, cafes, had supermarkets if self catering. About and hour from Faro. Lagos a bigger town is 15 mins away by car with lots of water sports etc. though we just went there for lunch and a wander round old the town. There is a local bus that goes regularly.

Have stayed in a mixture of self catering apartments, houses. I would recommend the Estella da Luz resort (have stayed twice). It’s family friendly, has kids pool (was heated), adults only pool, gym, indoor pool, spa (had some excellent massages and a facial), bar and little cafe, parking underneath the building. The gardens were beautifully kept. We also paid for a pick up from the airport by the resort. Could leave luggage at reception on day of checkout. About a 10 minute walk down to the beach (bit of a hill on the way back with buggy), but a great ice cream shop halfway up to make it worth it. rented a 3 bed penthouse apartment, really good price, lovely big terrace which overlooked the pool area, but they no longer own it. You could look on the resorts website or verbo for apartments. We don’t usually go back to places but there is something special about this lovely little town!

We booked our Villa through Villa Plus, very impressed, had everything we needed and any small problems sorted quickly by Rep.
