South of France with 4 month old - mad?

DS will be 4 months old in August and we’re considering south of France for a laid back holiday but concerned about the heat for my baby. We’d obviously avoid peak heat by staying in. What are your thoughts?

I been to the South of France many times but wouldn't go with a 4 month old. Wait until next year.

Not a chance.

Absolutely crazy. It will be extremely hot then. Far too hot for a young baby.

Absolutely fine - people in the South of France have babies too!! We went to Southern Spain, Southern France and Southern Italy between 2m - 8m and it was fine. It was actually hotter in London where we live that year!!

If you’ve got air con and stay inside/in the shade in the heat of the day it’ll be fine. DS was about that age during a UK summer when it was 35 degrees plus. It was far worse here because there was no air con!

Why go in peak season when you can wait a few weeks and get a bargain? Once your baby is at school you'll be stuck paying premium prices, go in September and rent a place with a private pool for the price of a studio apartment in August. It will be a little cooler too.

mynameiscalypso · 10/06/2023 20:02

It is generally cooler in August than July, especially towards the end of August. The temps are normally 28/30C which is not excessive. Cooler by the coast as well.

It's fine as someone else said, people in hot counties have babies too!
Shade/air con and plenty of feeds, no issue.

Not mad at all. I’m sure babies are born and live in the south of France. We took 4mo DD to Greece last year.

It'll be absolutely fine!
