Florence or Venice?

We'd like to have a city break in August (yes I know very hot and busy) to either Florence and Venice. Unless you can suggest somewhere else? Husband and I, and our DD 12.

Would like beautiful sights, GREAT food, and a hotel with a swimming pool so that we can go back to the hotel and have a moment sitting in the sun for a bit before heading out again for dinner.

Both Florence and Venice are fabulous. I would say Venice for your trip though. Yes it’s hot, but unbelievably easy to avoid crowds (in many cases literally just one street back) and wander the back streets. Also the water buses mean you can minimise walking, and have great views on the journey.

where you stay won’t matter - again very easy to be in the quieter corneas long as you’re not on top of st makes square or the Rialto.

if you do want to visit some of the museums etc, just get fast track tickets to avoid queuing too long

Also look at air bnb. Some lovely apartments with air con etc. and stacks of places to eat out

Late to party... interested in all the comments.

Have been to Venice for city break in July and loved it.

Does Pisa get a look in? Anyone spent time there.

I think if you're doing a city break in height of summer you want to have accommodation v central so can pop back easy enough mid of day.

Pisa is mote of a daytrip. There is little there other than the area with the tower and cathedral, although the excavated Roman boat museum might be interesting. Lucca is a more attractive city nearby.

Florence over Venice any day. Venice is super touristy, ripoffy and way less magical than beautiful Florence. Your breath can't fail to be taken away at every corner in Florence.

Also bear in mind tons of Mozzies in august (in venice - not sure about in florence). They bit me to death!
