Has anyone done a surfing holiday abroad (we have done in it Cornwall and it was freezing in August for the whole week). Maybe Portugal.

Or a flotilla holiday in Greece or Turkey.

Or any other suggestions for watersports type holiday for teens. Ideally a social format but cheaper than Neilson type of full package.

Gulet in Turkey and Greek islands, but next year we are considering a sabbatical over the summer and touring around Turkey so this fits. My teens are more partial to a gentle swim and sites than active watersports.

We went canyoning in norther Spain / southern France, it was awesome!

Portugal great. Sea is cold. Need a wetsuit.

Not a flotilla holiday but this company also do those. Rather we went to Greece with Trek Adventures. There was various water sports on the beach to have a go at.

I took my two pre-teens on a week adventure holiday in northern Italy a few years ago. We were based on a farm in our own lodge but meals were all provided. We went kayaking, cycling, walking, a day at a Go Ape type place, swimming in a river etc. There were a few families with teenagers.

I think it was with Explore.

The sea in Portugal is cold, not really any different to the U.K. if the weather is warm like now, Cornwall has some of the best surfing in Europe.

If cold sea isnt your thing, flotilla is good but it's pretty expensive and you may need certification if you aren't already sailors, the one we are looking at we need to either get certified ahead or arrive 3 days beforehand

If it's in Greek waters, you now need an ICC and that means getting training and then waiting for the paperwork. (We'd booked a Neilson stay and sail, train the first week flotilla the next, but DH is a reader of small print and realised that while that used to be ok it isn't now! It's a recent change).

Thanks for this. It wasnt the sea in Cornwall that was cold it rained the whole week and was absolutely freezing spectating even in winter coats. Was fine for those surfing in wet suits but there was no sun the whole week so Portugal must be warmer for me!

We sail so flotilla could work but am still interested in cheaper options of Neilson type water sports included holiday but in much smaller family hotels (basic is fine). I will research the one above thanks. Any other suggestions??

I'm not sure how much they cost now, but I think Ocean Elements in Porto Heli is at the hotel Nielsen used to use (we went twice with DD, and aeons before our first watersports holiday when it was Sovereign Sailing). Might be worth a checking out.

sunisoutnow · 15/06/2023 15:58

Thanks I had tried Ocean Elements for a few days before your message above but they never reply or answer!

Does anyone know any similar companies to Trek Adventures (any country) or does anyone else have experience of Trek Adventures beach clubs? Thanks
