Passport office hasn’t updated applications to show they have documents they received 10 days ago

Aaaarggh, I’m desperately wanting to book a last minute summer holiday but don’t dare do it until I have clarity on this.

Applied for a passport a couple of weeks ago for DC and a renewal for DH and did the verification etc. online. I posted the documents requested and they were received last Wednesday (31 May) according to RM tracking.

Could this be an issue because I sent both in one envelope (with both application references on the envelope as they requested)?

Has anyone else sent of documents (particularly to Bootle) and experienced delays?

At some point I will have to book a holiday with moveable dates just in case, but I’d feel a lot better doing this if I knew they’d actually received what I’d sent which starts the ball rolling.

I know it’s my own fault for leaving this later than I should have, but the idea to go abroad was a new one that I’ve now decided is the best option for us.

Any experiences welcome, even if they’re a more negative story than I’d like (which would stop me getting ahead of myself).

Because they haven’t even started to process your application . Mine took 6 weeks

My old passport took about 2 weeks to appear on the system after I sent it 1st class.
Then suddenly the documents were registered and I had text 2 days later to say my new passport was being printed and I had it 3 days later.
That was 2 months ago

Mine went to Bootle and a similar thing happened. I emailed them and found them to be really helpful.

6 weeks for them to log that the documents had been received, or 6 weeks in total?

I definitely understand that logging the documents is part of the process, but lots of others on the web seem to have the documents logged an awful lot quicker and I’m really wondering at what point the wait is abnormal and possibly due to an issue that I should be following up on.

Thank you, it’s just unnerving waiting to know that at least they have acknowledged the next step in theirs - the reminders to send in information are infuriating when it feels like I did so ages ago!

Normal- this is the bit that takes the time. Once they log it they’ll then issue the new one within a day or two.

This happened to me and I called them. They were quite helpful and said the documents would be logged within the next two days and they were. I’d give them a ring.

I’ll set aside some time to call them, I tried but didn’t leave long enough so had to hang up after waiting quite a while.

I did assume that there’s be very little that they could do given if it’s not logged by them they won’t know where it is, but definitely worth a shot at this point.

I had a friend apply and send their docs to the same office just a day before and theirs were logged within 24 hours of arriving which is probably why I’m concerned!

I think they don't log them as received until they actually start working on the application.

We renewed the DC passports earlier in the year. DC2 docs were logged as received almost immediately. DC1 took much longer, but in both cases it was only a couple of days from logging as received to the new passport being sent out to us.

As an update, DH had a notification that his documents were received this morning (so 11 days after they were actually received) but DC has had nothing and the status checker still hasn’t updated.

Probably even more on edge now because both sets of documents were in the same envelope, so I can’t see how they wouldn’t have been “received” on the same day.

Fingers crossed that things are at least moving now!

@Throwaway9876 if you have the tracking details I'd give them a ring - they can help more easily if you have the tracking info.

I sent mine of on the 8th of May and they have not updated mine and did it first class I think it's goin to be a good few week before they update... but the reason why I use the on line as I was told it's fast but looks like not

My application stood still for days and I rang after a week to ask why coz I kept receiving emails to ask for more information but then said if you have sent this information please ignore email .. but it wasn’t telling me what the information was !!!!
so I rang up and the woman was about as helpful as the emails . I left it another 4 days and I went on online chat and asked about the progress coz it wasn’t moving and within 3 mins a woman rang me from the passport office and it was coz they just needed a question answering !!!! All that time and no one told me anything !!! I got an email to say it was in print and that night it was out for delivery so I got it on the Tuesday . In total it was about 2 weeks but without the delays I would have got it in a week .

Mine has updated but took seven day

I ordered 5th May, sent old passport 6th May. They logged it as received 8th May then nothing until yesterday when it was approved. Got it today!
