Which is likely to be warmer in late Sept - Sicily, Crete, Sardinia or somewhere else?

Looking for a beach and culture holiday for a week. Santorini is one option, or Sardinia or Sicily.

Any thoughts on which might be warmer (I know you can never be sure) or is there somewhere else we can relax and also some day trips?

I can't comment on the others but Crete was 36 on three of the days I was there last mid September, above 30 on the rest of the days.

Wow! Thank you.

Madeira maybe, September is their warmest month

OMGitsnotgood · 09/06/2023 07:05

I don't know about the others but Crete is usually still very hot at that time of year

The part of Crete I went to in late September early October last year was a bit stormy so don't go too late in September. The weather was perfect for the first 3 days until about 1st October. Unfortunately we couldn't go sooner.

If you go to Crete, be sure to visit some of their best beaches: Falassarna, Elafonissi & Balos.
Also there's a botanical gardens on the side of a mountain, and Chania town is great.
The food in Crete is amazing.

I can also only vouch for Crete, but’s been lovely and warm and sunny the three times I’ve been at that time of year. Also recommend Chania - the old town is beautiful, the food is fantastic, and there’s a decent beach about ten mins walk away.

Went to sicily a few years ago in sept/ oct. Weather was lovely and hot for beach/ pool etc

MissPoldark · 09/06/2023 07:40

They’re all approximately in the same region so I’d be surprised if there’s much difference between them at all in terms of weather.
personally out of those I would choose Sardinia.

re Sicily Mount Etna has been erupting a lot this year and on some occasions flights have been disrupted.

MissPoldark · 09/06/2023 07:42

When I said same region I was referring to Santorini , Sardinia or Sicily which are the countries mentioned in your post.

borntobequiet · 09/06/2023 07:46

They’re all warm, as are the Balearics and Malta/Gozo. In fact so much so that I delay until October as I’m not fond of temperatures above 25°

Kai1981 · 09/06/2023 08:02

Thank you for the recommendations. I tend to get cold so the hotter the better for me!

Sounds like there’s lots of options anyway.

Second everyone's comments on Crete, Chania is a wonderful place. We aren't normally ones for visiting the same place twice but desperate to go back.

Hobbesmanc · 09/06/2023 16:50

Crete has so much to offer. Rhodes might be an option. Rhodes town is amazing and there's plenty of other sites. Weather will still be great. Lindos is my suggestion as a base.

Any recommendations of nice hotels in Crete?

LittleFreakJezebel · 09/06/2023 17:33

Our hotel was only average but I liked the area we were in, it was about 15 minutes on the bus (very easy to navigate) into Chania and down by the beach in the 'neighbourhood' of Kato Daratso.

I was torn between Sicily and Crete a couple of years ago in September. The only reason I opted for Sicily was because Greece were about to impose further Covid restrictions, which they did.

They basked in wall to wall sunshine every day (over 30°) and Sicily had rain and clouds all through the 2nd week.

Have also spent October in Crete and it was still hot in the daytime. 🇬🇷

I really recommend the Aphrodite Beach Hotel in Kissamos 50km from Chania; been there twice, a lovely fairly large but immaculately clean and lovely family run hotel.

PinkPondQueen · 10/06/2023 06:26

It will still be lovely & warm in any of those places but for culture I really think you should head for Sicily plus the beaches are beautiful!
