Hi, anyone been to Mauritius end March? If so how was the weather? Looking for somewhere warm for next Easter school holidays. I'd be looking at the south of the island around Bel Ombre (stayed there before)

We had two weeks in Mauritius in March of this year, the weather was amazing. You get a short sharp shower most days, generally in the evenings, but it was at least 30 degrees during the day.

I have also been to Mauritius in May, and was disappointed with the weather, it was mild rather than hot - apparently we would have got better weather in Tenerife!

Shabadaba · 05/07/2023 23:27

Personally I found it a very long journey for what it was. Nothing to write home about. Nice hotel and beach etc but other than that it was a bit disappointing.

SpainToday · 06/07/2023 07:10

@Shabadaba if someone is looking for a summer trip, then I would agree with you. A 12 hour flight for mild weather and some pretty beaches doesn’t really cut it. But if you’re looking for winter sun and some properly hot weather, it’s a great destination

@LuxuryTravelExpert we stayed at Lux Belle Mare for our first visit, it was fabulous, bit I think it was destroyed by fire last year? When we were in Mauritius a few months ago, the site was still boarded up, I wasn’t sure if they were rebuilding or not?

Oooh jumping on thread! I'm going in October- any suggestions of things to do? We're stopping at Radisson Blu Azuri Resort & Spa on the NE coast

wineandmaltesershappyme · 15/09/2023 19:12

Sorry i lost this thread. We've been to Mauritius before and really like it so happy going back and don't mind the flight.
We're looking at the Radisson Blu Azuri for this trip, stayed south at the Heritage Awali last time (stunning hotel)
Thank you for the comments on the weather, it's reassuring.

Haven't been to Radisson yet Smile that's where we're looking to book for next April

Trips- isle aux cerfs and an inland trip to the volcano, the coloured sand and a stunning waterfall. Port Louis is ok for an hour or so but nothing special. We were there end of March a few years ago and there was a religious (Hindu?) festival on which was interesting. The weather was hot with an odd shower and occasional breeze, sea was very warm. The food was great, people friendly and it felt really safe.

Silkiebunny · 21/09/2023 22:19

We loved it. Just to add to trips Ile aux Aigrette was great, from Mauritian wildlife trust, with speedboat over and back and 1.5 hours wandering the forest with rare birds and giant tortoise and ebony trees.

One of our best holidays ever. Stayed at Zilwa near Gran Bai. Loads to do on the island. Hire a car and explore .

Silkiebunny · 22/09/2023 11:02

Yes it would be well worth hiring a car. If you can't drive like me you can hire a taxi for the day to do a tour of wherever you want to go, its about £70 for the day. We had 3 taxi drivers and 2 of them gave talks on Mauritius which was lovely.

atomicnotsoblonde · 23/09/2023 09:24

Great trips ideas thank you!

Anything else I need to know? I'm going solo with my kids. Do they prefer cash or can you use cards everywhere?

Silkiebunny · 23/09/2023 10:24

I went solo with my daughter and we managed with just cards apart from DD wanted to do the tubing boat attached to speedboat and that was cash only and 60 pounds for two after exchange fees. Though hotel we had taken the AI option so was all paid in advance, trips I paid online in advance, taxi paid online in advance. Though depends what you are doing, if you aren't ordering things in advance and eating out you would probably need more cash.

If you've got a very late flight with a few hours at airport the airport lounge was nice, comfy seats with WiFi and food and drink included whereas people not in it some were standing. Though was a bit pricey at 50 euros each. Booked in advance via Air Mauritius.
