MOROCCO - have you been?

Thinking of going to Morocco during the Easter break and wanting advice on where to go, where to avoid etc.

Hoping to do it on a budget and book flights and accommodation separately, so if you can help with any of this, please do!

Yes,it's ace and dead easy to get around.
We did all of it ourselves a few years back.
Even easier if you speak French as you do.
I bloody loved it.

moondog · 20/02/2008 22:27

We flew into Marrakech, then hung about for a few days then hired a car and went to Essaouira and down south to the desert (Ouarzazate)

Easter a good time to go.We went in may and it was gettnig bloody hot then.

I planed it all from a Lonely Planet.

MesaLoca · 20/02/2008 22:30

Yes dead easy to get around and get in places. Avoid Casablanca though - most boring city on the planet. We used the rough guide and just turned up at hotels and bartered a better than published rate. Be careful with the food though it made me siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

Rhubarb · 20/02/2008 22:31

Who did you book your flights with? Where from?

It was Trailfinders I think but since then Easyjet do flights into Marrakech so check them out.

Rhubarb · 20/02/2008 22:35

Been searching and flights only are around £325 each for the cheapest, would it be cheaper to book through a travel agent?

Food is bloody fantastic.

I plan my holidays around food and was not disappointed.

MrsBadger · 20/02/2008 22:41

we did v similar to moony. MarrKESH / Essaouira, lonely planet + rough guide, but was in Oct

no probs with food and we ate on the street every night (experience says that food cooked hot and frsh in front of you is much safer than pseudo-western restaurants)

Rhubarb · 20/02/2008 22:50

Hmm, just can't seem to get cheap flights. A lot of cheapo flight companies like bmi baby don't operate many flights until April. Cheapest flights would cost over 1 grand for all of us, that's not including our accommodation when we get there!

Have yuo tried Easyjet?

Accomm. is chaep as hell.We stayed in a mix of places but one of the best was a cheap and cheerful one just off Djema el Fna square which cost about £6 for the two of us.

mehdismummy · 20/02/2008 23:09

my sister went to visit my sil in marakeesh and went with easy jet. If you do go let me know and i will get her to find about cheap places to stay eat etc and get you tickets to hear her sing-

Rhubarb · 21/02/2008 09:53

Thanks! That's very kind of you, I'll try Easyjet now.

Easyjet don't fly to Morocco from any North West airports.

Yes, I've been and we're going for a week in the Spring holiday at the end of April.

We booked directly with the hotel and bought flights on e-bookers. Much cheaper to fly midweek and into Casablanca rather than Marrakesh.
