Anyone familiar with Kissimee? Is it worth going if you're not doing Disney etc?

Looking for a cheap break and have found a package to Florida for 2 weeks. I really fancy going to Florida but DS is 18 months and probably won't appreciate the whole Disney thing yet. Seaworld might be good but ideally wanted to check out some great beaches and wildlife etc.

Anyone been and know what else there is to do other than Disney? Is it a good base to see other parts of Florida?

We went to florida with young children, went to seaworld and thats all we done in Orlando, we were staying about 2 hours away from Orlando on the east coast, florida is a wonderful state with lots to do but be warned there is vast distances between most things. We went to lots of beaches, Kennedy Space Centre and really had a good time, but a car is a must and be prepared to drive a long way.

Kissimmee is one big strip mall. Seriously it' the villa rental capital. Seaworld is an amazing place and I'm sure that you're 18mnth old would absolutely adore it. Go to Universal Studios - you can buy special tickets in the Uk for access to all the Universal resorts. Universal Islands of adventure has a great Dr Seuss Landing. Although having said that FantasyLand in Disney is equally fabulous for little kids - with Winnie the Pooh and It's a Small Small World ride.

The east cost of Florida near Fort Myers is brilliant apparently or you have the areas near Daytona Beach. I can certainly recommend a nice villa in Kissimmee with four beds and a pool. I rented it last year and it was fabulous.

There is so much to do in Kissimmee your 18 months old will probably adore Disney mine did. Gatorland has a new water park, Seaworld is just opening Aquatica its new waterpark. Magic Kindom and Animal Kingdom are perfect for little ones. Sea World is wonderful. Busch Gardens about 90 mins away is also great with rides and animals and a lovely wet play area. You'll have a whale of a time. I would recommend you stay at a resort like Windsor Hills, take a look at www.windsorhillsrent.com for rental homes from 2-6 bedrooms. Thanks, Annie.

18 months is a good age to enjoy the joys of seaworld. We took DD at exactly the same age, and nearly a year later, it's all she talks about, especially when she sees an aeroplane. She thinks it's a country....
