Can get mega cheap flights to Reus airport from Brum, so this looks like a good place to aim for.

It is a short bus ride or 15 min walk to Portaventura theme and water parks, and close to beach.

My mum keeps suggesting Turkey, but how does that compare to Salou ??

Anybody ??

my mum and stepdad went to Salou, stepdad loved it, my mum loved the relative proximity to Barcelona . I'ld say Salou would be a bit less stressful over being careful about local tap water etc than Turkey.

puffling · 20/02/2008 18:59

Yes, plenty of resorts nearby, Cambrils is a lovely resort next to Salou, but a lot less built up.

puffling · 20/02/2008 19:33

Here's a nice villa in Cambrils:

its one place i would go back to, salou is a bit egg and chips brigade but lovely promenade, cambrils still has a spanish feel about it. very safe. great train links. about 10 mins from airport.

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 20:45

Thats lovely puffling, but more than I want to pay. The one I linked to is only £450 for the week I want to go.

Going to speak to my mum , but hopefully this is where we will be going.

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:01

Thanks emma, looking now.

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:15

really? I knew it was cheap but didnt think it was that cheap!!

Lovely accom aswell

How much are your flights?

We were considering doing this next year as I have had so many friends rave about it.

( Its really close to Reus aswell- so not a massive transfer)

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:24

Flights are £409 for us all.

Accomodation is £289 and then with a few bits added on like linen is about £350.

tiredemma · 20/02/2008 21:25

Do you like the look of it then? I love the accom- so much better than a Self catering apartment on a complex- this is like a real holiday!

Close to theme parks aswell.

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:31

I think it looks wonderful, going to show my mum tommorow and hopefully book it

Tbh i was still unsure about going abroad, but that site has made my mind up so thank you

tiredemma · 20/02/2008 21:35

Oh you wuill love it there- Its only about 2 miles from Portaventura. Good self contained site aswell, I really rate those Thomsons Alfresco holidays.

glad you like it.

(good to see my travel agent training has not been totally lost!!)

carmenelectra · 20/02/2008 21:44

Nutcarcker,

We went to Salou when ds 1 was about 2. We had a good time and the hotel had loads going on, but it wasnt my favourite place to go at all. The weather was really unpredictabble(main summer)and im just not that fussed on mainland Spain. However, Portadventura is fab!

Tukey wins hands down for me. I have to agree with your mom! No contest! I would go to Salou again, but only if i got a mega cheap deal. Its more expensive than Turkey too.

Then again, i am biased as we go to Turkey practically every yr. Downside is though obviously much further to travel. Travel to Reus is alovely short flight. And of course its family friendly(but so is Turkey!)

carmenelectra · 20/02/2008 21:46

Sorry nutcracker spelt your name wrong!

We stayed in Cambrils too and went went to Barcelona during our stay.

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:51

Carmen, perhaps I can go to Turkey next year LOL

Just spoken to my mum and we are going to book it all on Friday. I insisted on paying it all, so my mum is paying for the kids passports

OP posts:
carmenelectra · 20/02/2008 21:54

Oh the passports cost shitloads now dont they? Gotta get dp's renewed and apply for the baby's for our hol(Turkey ha ha!)

nutcracker · 20/02/2008 21:57

Yep they do, just sent off for mine, £79 inc check and send.

OP posts:
carmenelectra · 20/02/2008 21:58

Jesus Christ. I will need a bank loan just for them

Lmccrean · 20/02/2008 21:59

Ive been last year, and the year before, both times staying in cap salou (10-15 mins walk from salou, and quieter beaches) Loads of tourist tat that does my head in, but we went for port aventura and barcelona last year i got 2 weeks for 3 people inc flights, transfers, breakfast and dinner etc for £620 through thomson (princess um something hotel )

whatever you do, dont forget to check to see if quidco offer cashback, or there are any vouchers floating around (i got ones on ebay and saved £200)

tiredemma · 21/02/2008 07:35

Ah Im so glad you are going to book the Alfresco one- I think its perfect for first timers abroad!
