Daughter going to Costa Rica alone - what essentials does she need? 0 replies
Fushia123 · Yesterday 08:36
DD 21 is heading to a language school in Costa Rica next week. It’s part of her year abroad from uni and she is returning home here next week from her placement in Germany. Turn around is about five days at home between journeys. She sorted her immunisation out when she came home at Easter but what other essentials does she need to do or take with her? Any advice on what I could do to help her would be valuable. Thank you!

My dp is in Costa Rica at the moment. He said it was much hotter at the moment than it was a few years ago - 32 degrees last time he phoned - so the main thing I'd say she needs is loose, cool clothing.

Thank you. That’s really useful to know.
Much appreciated xxx

The south is incredibly humid, any place south of Jaco. The North was bearable especially near the coast. Where is she heading ?

An umbrella, it can be very humid which makes raincoats too sweaty. Other than that, she should take everything she needs (eg toiletries, suncream, bug spray, feminine products etc) prices for some things are higher than here.

Otherwise, money is easy, all cards just work. A small amount in US is useful but not necessary.

Otherwise, she'll have a great time, their form of Spanish is easy to understand as there is so much to see and do.

Cards are generally fine in shops, cafes and restaurants but you need cash for buses and taxis.
