Germany - dh and I can go to either Hamburg or Berlin, any recommendations? and which one would you choose?

We need to go for a work related thing. I immediately thought of Berlin but I have heard that Hamburg is nice too.

'literature hotel', bit less central but lovely district

If I was in Berlin for the first time and just had a weekend, I'd do a long-drawn-out walk from east to west or vice versa, Reichstag is on the way, and you can hop on and off buses. There are so many places you can stop off at to take a look, shop, eat etc. that this walk can easily take all day.

oh that'll be more of a challenge - haven't been out drinking since, I don't know, it feels like about 1997 but I know which area I'd go to if I got the opportunity I shall have a think about it.

DH is currently searching for a hotel for his colleagues freebie at the end of May. There is a trade fair on and the hotels are charging incredible amounts of money. The NH hotel quoted 285euros for a single room for one night. I will send him your link.

Berlin! We stayed atwww.palace.de. Really nice. Not cheap though.

The Mandala. I think I looked at that hotel today. My head is spinning slightly because we looked at hundreds of hotels today.

I worked in Hamburg years ago and never really warmed to it so am pleased you decided on Berlin.

We had an aupair from Berlin and she was so quirky and funny that I'd love to visit the place sometime.
