DH has arranged a half term trip to Normandy, he’s done all the boring admin which I’m grateful for but hasn’t really looked into what to do and of course everything is going to be shut on monday

any genius ideas of what to do in or close to Cherbourg on a bank holiday with 11&14yr old? We’ll have our car so can travel

It’s not a bank holiday in France. And there’s always the beach, non?

Monday 29 May IS a bank holiday in France - I live there so I do know.

Sadly I don't know Cherbourg so can't help there. But plenty of "attractions" will be open & ther is usually 1 supermarket in any large(ish) town open from 9 - 12 in the morning.

No idea if it’ll be open on Monday but we went to La Cité de La Mer years ago. You can go on the Redoubtable submarine, there was a Titanic exhibition, small sealife centre and an interactive game. You’re also not far from some of the Normandy beaches.

Thankyou - I think DH went into a spiral because one place was shut for the holiday but looks like actually quite a lot is going to be open

I’ve read a bit about this and it (on first sight) looks a little uninteresting - would you recommend it?

It's worth making the effort to go to the Normandy beaches and I don't think Bayeux is too far away either.
