Europa Park

Has anyone been? Would be keen for tips on good times of year to visit, how good the hotels are, and whether the water park would work if the weather isn’t blazing hot. Are there long queues? What’s the best stuff to do?

What 'up to date' information are you looking for? Not much has changed since the summer. We went in October... stayed in a fab self catering place 30 minutes drive away... Saturday was busy... Sunday less so. There is a new rollercoster planned for 2024.

Wondering if anyone's found a decent off site option. Seems like the close by options are extremely dated. We'll have a hire car so can drive a bit.

Thinking of doing a two centre holiday. Starting in park Europa and travelling down to Disneyland Paris.

I've been looking at Freiburg. It looks lovely.

ChateauMargaux · 30/12/2023 20:47

This place is self catering but beautiful... https://www.palais-wunderlich.de/

Freiburg is lovely.. it has quite a 'green' vibe.. bike lanes, farmers markets..

Colmar is an hour away.. it appears on a list of the most beautiful small towns in Europe. A strange mix of medieval buildings and canals in the centre surrounded by urban banality as you drive in.

Strasbourg is also not far.. but if you want to be on the first and last rides.. closer is better!!

The onsite hotels are not cheap but they do get you in an hour early on the day of arrival and the day you leave.... this would be totally worth it for my son!! Though I don't think the bg rides start before 9.. could be wrong.

Just booked flying into basel at easter. I need to hire car.

Planning on staying 3 days in Strasbourg. Airbnb for more space. Then via day trip to Colmar (nice lunch) to Rust.

Booked a hotel ticket package directly with the park. Staying at Collosseo /italian/colluseum one although I had also reserved a guest house Jennifer something on booking.com. Have decided I prefer to pay double for the room (compared to offsite) to get the resort hotel experience. Am quite keen to do a resort swimming pool or two whilst there.

Doing a day in the park, a day at Rutlantica (booked a sofa area so the kids can chill a bit as it will be a long day) then another park day the day we leave.

Only doing 6 days as I got flights going nice and early and flying back home late.

Now need to book restaurants on site.

Having the experience of staying on resort was fantastic, so if you can maybe do as @ZenNudist has said above and include a short stay at the park in your trip? It is expensive, but I've not stayed anywhere similar and was really glad we did it. The early entry to the park was great too; although the bigger rides weren't open early, we headed to Wodan and Blue Fire for queue opening and had done both within 30 minutes on parent queue swap.

@ChateauMargaux that place in Lahr looks lovely!

As an aside, I found train reliability in Germany really quite shocking earlier this year, so would recommend either being close enough to catch the park shuttle/walk, or drive in.

Brilliant and informative video on getting to this place, accomodation and general park info available on youtube. Channel is called themepark worldwide.

Thedrownedprophet · 01/01/2024 00:53

@ChateauMargaux that accommodation looks incredible. Our Son and his girlfriend are really keen on Frieberg, we've found a decent apartment, not a patch on that though.

We plan to fly Dublin to Frankfurt, get a hire car and so three nights in the area. Then drive the car to Strasbourg and board a TGV to Disneyland Paris.

We love a theme park and are big Orlando fans, but we've been priced out in recent years.

pashmina696 · 05/01/2024 23:17

We stayed at the hotel Victoria which is a best western in central Freiburg - really good hotel and parking is nearby. Had a family room. It didn't take long to get to Europapark and we used the

Sent too soon... VIP parking which wasn't much more than standard and right at the door of the park

Thank you! Really good advice.
