I need somewhere fabulous to go in London for my birthday

In two weeks time I turn 35. Sigh. But on the plus side, I've managed to get someone to look after my kids from midday on Saturday till Sunday morning and I'll be heading into London with DH.

I plan on shopping, drinking coffee, doing nothing (not even museums etc) - just being a grown up without kids. But then I want to go somewhere for dinner. I'd like somewhere central - so West End-ish. I'd ideally like somewhere that has some kind of cocktail bar or separate bar/dancing in case we want to that afterwards (although getting DH to do that could be interesting).

I can't eat seafood and hate fresh coriander - which rules out thai and seafood restaurants. I did like the look of Momo (www.momoresto.com) but most things come with coriander which I don't want to be picky about. But that type of feel looks cool.

Possibly somewhere for drinks first and then a not too far walk for dinner could be another option.

Any suggestions??

for posh drinks I like the bar at 1 Aldwych. it's a hotel so it has a restaurant too but I've never been there.

the bar at 1 aldwych is FABULOUS.

go to andrew edmunds (muy romantico) for dinner and then go to lucky voice and book a private room for karaoke.

and stay at the charlotte street hotel which is divine.

actually Joe Allen's is near 1 Aldwych and is good. no dancing but quite noisy and fun and full of theatrical types - last time I went there we ended up singing with Lee John from Imagination. mid-price range.

I think that you will find it is Leee actually.

As you were.

well I nearly put Lee John. I was, I should add, the only woman in our group who didn;t know who he was. I thought we were just singing with some random nice guy on teh next table. the others, when we left, said with much glee and excitement, "you do know who that was, don;t you....?". er, no...

I meant I nearly put John Lee...

Totally agree with sophable about Andrew Edmunds - though there is not enough room to swing a cat, never mind dance!

Check out www.toptable.co.uk for loads of great deals on all types of restaurant. Not been disappointed booking through them yet.

Have a great time!
