Caribbean in UK Summer

My partner’s cousin has a house in Antigua and has said we are welcome to go and stay there for a week this July. We were thinking of taking him up on this offer as with the price of flights to Greece (we can only do Sat-Sat) and hotels there, it comes out as cheaper than a European holiday.

How bad is the weather? We have read that early July is generally OK hurricane wise, but obviously no guarantees.

The weather in July is pretty hot and can be a little rainy. Negligible risk of hurricanes. Peak hurricane season isn't until the end of August/beginning of September.

Thank you 😎

I’m not keen on the weather then, lots of flies and too humid. I actually prefer october.

I've been regularly in the last week of July/first of August and the weather is fine. Sometimes a little rain (but it gets it over and done with, unlike British rain!) and, rarely, a tropical storm.

@zambez If you can get to places with a good breeze, it’s fine. It’s an easy island to navigate and loads of beaches. If it’s a bit humid, jump in the sea!

Go for it. We went to Barbados last July and it was our best holiday ever!

Oh you'll have a wonderful time but the mosquitoes and sand flies are absolutely lethal. I end up coming back from the Caribbean looking like I've got chicken pox!

JeandeServiette · 24/05/2023 19:02

It'll be okay as long as you have decent air con and stay out of the midday sun.

themodiste · 25/05/2023 18:00

Weather should be fine, but the mosquitoes that time of year are plentiful. I'd definitely go though!
