Vauxhall Zafira

Help! We've just discovered that our Maxi Cosi Priori car seat is potentially dangerous as the seat belt in our Zafira is too long. Apparently you can get buckle crunch if the car is in a crash. Have been to Mother*e who were useless in finding a seat that fitted. Vauxhall didn't have a clue other than their own seat which is a whopping £220! And we need 2! Does anyone know of any other car seats suitable and why are Vauxhall making a "family" car that you can't get child car seats for???!!!!

Dh has the car, I will check when he gets back, which will be late.

Maxi Cosi Tobi in ours - still pricey though but no buckle crunch. Apparently problem is seat belt length differs from car to car

Can I ask - what is buckle crunch?

Becca32 · 21/02/2008 00:03

buckle crunch is when the seatbelt buckle is too long and rests on the actual car seat. In a crash it could snap or pop the seatbelt open, the car seat would then fly forward and backward which is opposing force for the child. In other words the child continues going forwards as the seat is moving backwards causing potential neck and spine injuries. That's how I understand it anyway...

It's the bit of strap that pokes out of the seat back, cat - if that is too long, when it's buckled up the connected part is bent round the frame of the child seat instead of being tucked away just above the seat cushion.

buckle crunch has been a potential problem for years in some cars, cat.

The female part of the buckle should always be on such a short strap it barely sticks up above the seat cushion, but it's often on a strap which is 2-3" long, which is what causes the problem - that's why any new seat should always be tested out in your own car before you buy it.
