Special holiday with teens

We’re planning a special family holiday next July. Will be with DH and 2 teen boys, 15 & 19. Week to 10days. We all enjoy sun, beach & good food. I enjoy historical sites, culture, paddle boarding & snorkelling. The boys love football, swimming and relaxing. I love camping, the others 5 star luxury! Meeru in the Maldives last year was perfect for everyone. Any other gems like Meeru that you can recommend. No budget as yet - will be a once in a lifetime trip. Happy to consider a 2 destination holiday. Thanks in advance 😀

Padma Resort Ubud, in Bali

Costa Rica?

Tinytigertail · 21/05/2023 07:32

Second Costa Rica, or how about Kenya? You can do a private safari and then have a few days in Mombasa to chill on the beach? My kids loved the safari.

Zanzibar would do the job.

Sri Lanka meets your requirements and will come in at a decent price for a once in a lifetime trip. Taking the train across the island then flying back in a light plane I particularly recommend, also a couple of nights In Colombo (museum is very good) can recommend an excellent hotel, handmade chocolate selection and macarons in room on arrival! They have Uber including ubertut which was fun

For higher budget we are just planning 5 days at the Victoria falls and clobe national park then okewago delta on a canoe, finally onto Mozambique - obviously a lot more but I've found local providers rather than a tour operator

Sri Lanka?! My friend whose husband is Sri Lankan has cancelled their trip to see his parents it’s on the verge of collapse. Also Kenya?! Dh and I went there pre kids absolutely terrifying no way would we take our teens there.

gogohmm would be great to hear more about your itinerary and providers. We would love to do a trip like that next year.

Maybe the best family hotel in turkey or Greece with activities as both destinations would be good for historical sights, sun and paddle boarding.
When my DC were younger we had a similar brief and found twin centre holidays in the Caribbean worked well. One year we went to Cuba and had 10 days at a beach resort and then flew to Havana for three nights, that was a great trip. We went at Easter though, the summer is slightly more risky although July should be ok.
Mauritius offers good day trips but I found it quite windy for paddle boarding, I think one side is windier than the other.

I know a few families who have done Vietnam with kids that age and everyone absolutely loved it.

Peru was amazing with our teens.

Lima, Amazon adventure, Cusco, Machu Picchu hike, train down to Lake Titicaca.

Not cheap if you want a bit of luxury stay, but we did cookery, paddle boards, jungle boats and hikes, hike on Inca trai!, white water rafting, e-biking in sacred valley, homestay on the lake. Brilliant holiday.
