Where has good yet affordable 5* hotels? Thinking less than £150 a night.

Doesn’t need to be super posh

anywhere in the world? Places in South America and Asia perhaps?

gogohmm · 18/05/2023 15:27

Sri Lanka, around £100 a night but you need to get there, that's around £1000!

I paid £180 b&b in the U.K. for august this year

Porto has some if just for double room around now.

Bulgaria/Montenegro or Egypt/Tunisia 4 come close to the price but those are very “tired” 4 with very average food. Also depends on the season.

Krakow in Poland! Just looked and could have a weekend break in a 5 star hotel for about that

South East Asia (Thailand particularly good value for money) but of course getting there is more expensive than going somewhere in Europe.

Depends a lot on when you go and how far ahead you book, but it should be doable in lots of European cities if you want a shorter/cheaper flight.

Sofia is supposed to be the cheapest capital in the EU, and the other Bulgarian cities like Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, and Varna are even cheaper. Bucharest is possible, although more scenic cities Romanian might be preferable: Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Timisoara. Istanbul should give you lots of choices. Poland's a good idea, as mentioned - Krakow and Warsaw should be in your range or try Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań. Any of the Baltic capitals (Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius). Budapest if you're careful about timing, and Szeged (about an hour south on the train from the airport) is an architectural gem and really cheap. Malta, Portugal, and smaller cities in Spain would probably work too, if you're willing to stick to October-March.

South East Asia

Cambodia (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, the islands) has some wonderful hotels for around that price with the loveliest staff you’ll find anywhere.

Malaysia but no where as slick as the same hotel brand in Singapore.
