Banff in February

We're going to Banff Canada in February 2 adults and a 6 and 3 year old.

For those that have been especially at this time of year what were your must dos?

We're hiring a car so can get around.

Any tips or recommendations?

The appeal of that time of year for me is the weather, just experiencing the temperatures is something means we're going then. Already purchased some clothes in the sales this year need to get the rest in winter before we go. The scenery is another reason i understand the lakes will be frozen so the green colour hidden but frozen waterfalls and glaciers sound amazing.

Many of the roads to the glacier will be closed at that time of year. Read the link for further info.

I think you’re underestimating what -40
is like. Clothing you buy here won’t touch the sides. My kids wear 8 layers whilst skiing at -25, it’s beyond comprehension how cold anything beyond that is. Any expose skin can die. Frost bite is an issue.

is there a reason why Banff particularly? Are you more local than the U.K.?

What on earth possessed you to book flights without researching the area properly 😂There are so many places in the world you could go which would be much more suitable for a 3 and 6 year old.

@WallaceinAnderland dirt cheap fights I imagine ! I have been in some cold Canadian winters but you couldn’t pay me to vacay in Banff in Feb ! Most of the time espec Roth little kids will need to be indoors which makes it pointless ! I feel bad for the op not really thinking this through …. Banff is beautiful and well worth seeing but not in Feb.

Dont feel bad for me i didnt just wake up one day and think ill book banff on a whim. I know what to expect as i did look into it before theres places i want to see. Yes i get it february will be cold maybe even -40 maybe -8 i knew this before booking. I asked for must dos as i have places down already i wondered if there were more but people are more concerned about telling me its going to be cold and 3 year olds need to be warm thanks for that.

I do feel bad for you OP reading the replies, it must feel like everyone is pissing on your chips! Looking at the weather in February this year it varied from 1° to -22° and you obviously are prepared for the worst so try not to let others get you down! Banff is such a besutiful place and i'm sure you will love it!

FYI we stayed at The Moose which has hot rooftop pools which were heated to very toasty temperatures and there are spectacular views from up there! Might be worth looking into if you've not booked accommodation yet.
