Where to stay in Rome?

Looking on Airbnb & Booking.com but choice feels overwhelming! Travelling with DC 10 and 12, first time in Italy, bit clueless, normally do package holidays! Any recommendations of places to stay? The only things we’d really like is Wi-Fi and air con 😂

There's loads of nice areas, lots of it is person preference. My favourite area to stay is near the Pantheon or Piazza Navona as it's quite central. My children like Trastevere but are adults so older.

We went at Easter with our 8 and 12 year old. We stayed at the Best Western plus Spring House. It’s literally 30 seconds from the Vatican walls and handy for Ottaviano metro. We got a family suite which had a mezzanine for us, plus super king for the kids. Great restaurants nearby and lovely atmosphere.

Staying fairly centrally is a good idea, as you will do a lot of walking! Last time we went, we stayed near the Ponte Sisto bridge, which was a great location, as you could walk to most things, and it was close the Trastevere, which was our favourite place in the evenings

We stayed in trastevere, ideal for evenings and short walk to Centre

We went last year for a wedding and stayed right by the Trevi Fountain, lovely but madly crowded ALL THE TIME of course.

We're going again next year (another wedding! 🤦🏻‍♀️) and will look at Travestere as we loved it when we visited, it seemed much more relaxed and less frenetic than where we were staying.

Me and DC 11 and 13 had a great break here in February. A few minutes’ walk from the Trevi fountain, and same street as the carabinieri headquarters (military police with the lovely stripy trousers) so that was an added bonus 😳🤣. We walked everywhere apart from Vatican, and the bus stop there was just around the corner

Stayed in the same hotel as @Rushyswife
Was perfectly positioned and apart from the Colosseum, we walked everywhere. 5 minutes from Trastevere and all the restaurants, and very safe area.

Trastevere.

LauraDLoves · 15/05/2023 07:12

We liked Monti as great places to eat, more relaxed trendy vibe with less tourists, lovely streets to walk around and very convenient for both Colosseum/Forum and the train station.

Also - kids the ages of yours will probably enjoy the Optical Illusion museum (great fun on a rainy day but you will only spend about an hour or so there, it’s not big). Also my 10yr old DD loves the Legami stationery shops in Italy so keep an eye out for those. If you stay in Monti I can’t recommend a small cafe called Pasta Urbana enough - amazing food. You can book a table online via their website and it’s worth doing so as only a few tables.

My DD also really liked doing the Mission Rome book - a kind of scavenger hunt book. You can get it on Amazon (there’s a few cities). We will get them for other holidays as it was a great way to keep her interested in the sight-seeing and we also learned a lot!

We stayed in Trastavere which was great as in the evening there were lots of places to eat very close by. We walked to everything but went without kids. We stayed at Hotel Santa Maria which was lovely but don't recall if it had air con or not as we went in spring. The rooms had doors that went into a nice courtyard with orange/lemon trees.

So many brilliant suggestions thank you, can you remember which Best Western it was? https://www.bestwestern.co.uk/search/place/italy/rome?iata=00173950&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=best_western_international_location_&brand_terms_italy_exact&utm_content=responsivead&utm_keyword=best_western_rome&utm_matchtype=exact&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsIejBhDOARIsANYqkD0bQQDPE4zjGCcTT3dHTs_VlOviGq1hk7WEo_LCU29n1q7sQsMfZ5QaAkiHEALw_wcB
