Me and my kids would like to go away somewhere hot over Xmas. Never been done before!

Please could you share ideas of anywhere you've been that would suit us. Mix of beach/ pool and active ideally.

Fly from LGW.. for about 10 days.

Thank you 😊

Mexico or Costa Rica? Mexico probably better for resorts and Costa Rica for active stuff but both have a mix of what you’re looking for.

We went to Tenerife last Christmas. Weather was great. We hired bicycles. Lots of hills! We caught the bus to the capital and took a tram out to another village. There are the usual boat trips, trips to Volcano etc.

Thank you. Can you recommend any resorts or places to stay? I don't know either at all.

Mexico, Caribbean or a Caribbean cruise.

Sounds lovely and not too far to fly. Where on the island did you stay?

Sri Lanka was great at Xmas

We’ve done Florida a few times too (family there) but it can get chilly. The Keys were nice

JennyTheDonkey · 14/05/2023 21:38

Hawaii?

Shakespeareandi · 14/05/2023 22:42

Barbados. Good mix of everything.
Or furthet afield, Thailand, Vietnam or Bali although perhaps feels too far for 10 days.
Sri Lanka maybe. I've never been but would love to go.
South Africa would be a good shout too. Depends on your budget too.
Cheaper would be Canaries or Egypt. Hit and miss that time of year though. Been in Lanzarote in January when it was warmer in the UK than Lanzarote. We had to ask for heaters for our villa as the temperarure didn't go above 11'C for a few days! Other times have been fine but always chilly at night that time of year.

We went on a Caribbean cruise and then to the Florida Keys for Christmas a few years ago. It was wonderful, lovely memories of swimming wearing Santa hats, while a steel band played Christmas carols.

However, while the weather was lovely in Florida, it's not guaranteed at that time of year, you can get a cold front going through. Usually ok in the Caribbean then though.

We didn’t stay in resorts in either but I’d recommend Playa del Carmen in Mexico over Cancun. NDN stayed at Xcaret and really liked it. In Costa Rica the La Fortuna/Arenal and Manuel Antonio areas would be good for what you’re looking for.

Riu Tequila in Playa Del Carmen - Mexico. Lots of activities going on, Neon and White party every other Friday night, foam party etc.You have access to 2 other hotels you can eat in. Water sports on the beach.

We went in April and loved it. Pricey over Christmas though but don't know what your budget is.

However we're going to Tenerife for Xmas/New Year and that's pretty expensive too.

Egypt. We’ve done it and loved it. Tons of hotels with water parks etc, heated pools, Christmas Eve parades and parties and the beach on Christmas Day! Our favourite is the Jaz Makadi Saraya in Makadi Bay, Hurghada, but there are loads of other good ones

Ooh plus winter is the best time for Valley of the Kings visits etc, otherwise it’s too damn hot!
