My gf bought me a Portofino trip for my birthday a few years ago. I'm wishing to do a similar trip. Anybody got any recommendations for a short break away in Europe, for three nights, Trying to find something a little different than the usual Paris, Amsterdam etc

Cassis, Cudillero or Cascais
Pure coincidence that they all begin with C!

Nice/Antibes/Villefranche Sur Mer
Stresa - Lake Maggiore
Venice
Lisbon
I really liked Oslo for a weekend but Portofino it isn't.

I've just been to Budapest, and it was amazing, we had a wonderful time. But I'd say that it's probably best to visit in the week (Monday to Thursday), unless you are a party animal, in which case weekends are best.

@nationalone
Lotz of smaller cities in Italy also come up
trumps. Bologna is great for a day or so then get the train to Ravenna, Parma, Modena or Ferrara. Ravenna is amazing!

Also consider Sienna. Fly to Pisa and get the train.

Nice is great. I think you need more then a weekend. Try Brussels and Geneva. If you want fantastic countryside: Interlaken and get out on the railways.

Madrid has plenty to see and so does Stockholm. The Vasa in Stockholm is superb. So is the Viking gold! Copenhagen and Helsinki are both worth visiting.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm thinking about Lake Garda. I've been there and I think she'd like that. I'm still mulling it over.
