Cheap cruise alone

I have never been on a cruise and want to take one. My family has no interest so I'm going to go alone. Needs to set off and return to the UK. Where do I find last minute deals? So excited but don't know where to start!

Start with a specialist cruise travel agent like Iglu. They have access to deals from lots if different cruise lines. If you can go out of school holiday time you will get the best deals Single supplements are a nightmare to figure out so a good travel agent us essential to find you a reasonable solo package. On board there will be meet ups for solo passengers. Some lines do shared tables in the main dining room where you can meet others at dinner. You should also look at the cruise critics website which offers lots of reviews and info. Once you have booked a cruise you can start a meet up group on there as well.

Good advice above personally P&O are not the best value or standard wise, Celebrity, Royal carribean cater well for single travellers

ceecee32 · 13/05/2023 16:59

If you are on faceboook have a look at Solo Cruise forum by Passion for cruises.
Was recommended to me and have quite a few offers without single supplement

Jellifer · 13/05/2023 17:23

Definitely give Passion for cruises a call. They are a solo cruise specialist and have some amazing deals and are really helpful

I've done 4 cruises and 2 of them have been solo. Got off P & O Iona around the Norwegian Fjords just a few weeks ago. It left from Southampton for 7 nights. Was one of the best holidays I've ever had. Someone had created a Facebook group for that particular sailing. Someone posted on that group saying she was organising a solo meet up on the first night at 6 in one of the bars. It was not organised by the cruise line but just through the FB group. I now have 13 new friends. We went to meals together and had loads of fun during the week. I did have my alone time when I needed it. Was a great mix.

We did meet other solos who went to the coffee meet up run by the Cruise line.

Definitely recommend all the other advice given. I also gave myself the challenge of "strike a conversation with 3 people today" . Met people that way aswell.

Definitely do a cruise. I'm looking for my next one!

I second P&O Norwegian Fjords cruise from Southampton on Iona…went last August for 7 nights and had an amazing time. Highly recommend.

Great advice and tips here, thank you all. From first bits of research, I can't believe I can be charged a 'double' price just because I'm solo! So, will definitely look at the solo cruise specialists. I like the idea of a fjords and Scandinavia cruise - I'm not a sun and heat fan.

Definitely look at the solo specialists. Next time that is what I will do. My Fjord cruise was a very last minute purchase. I saw that the ship had 2 balcony cabins left and I just thought "sod it". I knew I wanted a balcony for the Fjords. So I booked online with the cruise line. Paid to choose my cabin which was extra but I got car parking at port and extra on board spend. I did pay £1300 ish. Chatting with other solos and some got an inside cabin for about £550 through travel agents so you can definitely do it cheaper. I was happy to pay more for a balcony. The views were emotionally breathtaking so it was all worth it for me. But definitely next time I am looking out for the best deals and planning ahead! Haha.

Have a look at Norwegian Cruise Lines, some of their larger ships have solo cabins, or sometimes you can book an inside or outside cabin and pay only a single fee, rather than a double - this will vary sailing to sailing.

They've got a good price for an inside cabin on an 11 day cruise to Iceland, leaving Southampton in June - from £500, which is an absolute steal for a solo traveller!

We always use Vivavoyage for booking our cruises, best prices that we've found.

Swishhh · 14/05/2023 21:23

Iglu cruise, choose from Southampton or the Uk and the month you want to go . You’ll get a big list of cruises come up, if you press low to high P&O will probably be cheapest, then Princess. Then it takes time but you need to check the price of every single one for one ordinary as they really vary. Also check cruses from Dover and Tilbury.
Iglu automatically is priced for two people but has the option to change to one person.

Another vote for www.passionforcruises.co.uk/

They've got an FB group where they also announce their solo cruise deals - all without solo supplement - and they create events for particular cruises so you can chat with other solid beforehand.

I've been on a couple and really enjoyed them.

I think cruise critic has a singles section. There will also be a roll call for your cruise that you can sign up to though some are busier than others.

Hottoffeesauce · 17/05/2023 08:15

Some more great advice here, thank you all. I definitely want a room with a balcony as have mobility issues and am looking forward to sitting on my private balcony looking at the sights! I can see I will pay more for this but it's an important part of the experience for me.

Another recommendation for Passion for Cruises who do not charge a supplement. Their Facebook page has lots of information.
