How much time to get through Madrid (Barajas) airport?

Planning onward travel by public transport after arriving into Madrid airport (T1). Trying to gauge how much time to allow to get out of the airport taking into account baggage reclaim, passport control (British passport) etc. Anyone got any experience they can share?

We went through last year, May.
It’s passport control then baggage.
queued for 40 mins for passport, there did look to be a few flights queuing at the same time.
baggage was going around the carousel when we got to it.

with the walking from the plane, passport , baggage, exit it was an hour, hour 15.

Between half an hour and an hour I'd say. Last went through in August and they were still checking temperatures but we were through in about 35 minutes. No queues at all at passport, it was just waiting for the baggage carousel.
Then down to the underground really quickly and into the centre.

Thanks both. That's very helpful.
