Anyone been? Any hotel recommendations?
Thinking of a week from Manchester in October.
( I’m hoping not to have to discuss the politics!)

Because the UK is such a brilliant place for workers and entirely free of misogyny and the harassment of women.🙄

It's really interesting because so many of these anti UAE posters harp on about the lack of rights and poor working conditions of migrant workers whilst burying their heads in the sand about the state of the UK.
Our government is screwed, I don't feel safe (knife crimes and robberies are at an all time high) and I haven't had a pay increase in over 5 years despite rising costs. We are a third world country in comparison to lots of these places!

IMO, Dubai has lots more to do and you can easily do a day trip to Abu Dhabi. Enjoy!

It's not a binary thing you know. I can choose not to go on holiday to places that have questionable human rights records AND protest about the UK gig economy and the erosion of workers' rights.

There's no such thing as a "third world" 🙄

😂 I teach them a very specific skill set, no discussion of wider issues.

Do you teach them that the best way to form opinions about global issues is to ask a parenting forum "which side are we supposed to be on?"

@Marchintospring

oh give over

Open forums are a great and sometimes unexpected opportunity to discover new concepts and idea's. The OP has clearly not been exposed to some philosophical and ethical idea's around individualism and how what we do matters. Full credit to her, she seemed open and interested despite the attacking nature of this forum.

Whether the UK is innocent in all things is completely irrelevant and a lazy excuse for inaction and an argument Trump and Boris use really well to excuse bad behaviour because 'they all are doing it'. If one person doesn't start, doesn't take a stand, then nothing will change. Be part of the solution not the problem, as much as possible.

To those who just say 'its just a holiday, give over', educate yourself. You are not 'having a holiday', that's just the capitalist dream world. You are directly funding something, what do you want to fund?

Cool. So you'd have no concerns about your daughter going there to work in a hotel, or as a maid?

No I wouldn't.

Twigthewonderkid would you go on holiday to Cuba?

Yemen would be an exciting alternative.

You jest, but I actually really want to go to Socotra. Sadly didn't make it there before disaster erupted.

Also didn't make it to Syria before Palmyra was destroyed.

The main thing I take issue with is that MN is a parenting forum. It’s an everything forum. I asked this in holidays, not AIBU. I didn’t say AIBU to go to Dubai? I asked for hotel recommendations!
In terms of which side are we supposed to be on, MN has taught me a lot about some topics, eg Brexit, gender vs sex etc. I guess if you are that opinionated about Dubai or Israel I wanted to know why. Both are places lots of friends have been to so I wouldn’t have considered them unsafe or black listed.
These aren’t topics I pay attention to or think about. I have a busy job and my Dad has cancer. Yes I am financially well off but time poor and planning and going on holidays is stress relief for me. I don’t read newspapers or pay much attention to world politics etc, I find it depressing.

I was in Dubai yesterday - we stayed at w mina seyahi

loved it! Happy to answer questions.

already booked for next year

We have stayed at Westin Mina Seyahi every October half term for the past few years…excellent resort.
Emirates is great for Winter heat and only 7 hour flight.
It has become very expensive to now go there both flights and hotels.

MN why have you hidden my post? Is it the hotel names? I've stayed there, I'm not a shill 😆.

Many years ago, I contributed to a thread about training a cat to use a cat flap, totally benign and non-offensive, but MN decided it broke their guidelines …. so don’t take it personally @Mookie81

Thanks.
Makes me laugh they're supposedly looking at it but haven't yet determined its genuine. I'll PM you OP.

Just an update. Had an absolutely fabulous week at Le Royal Meridien, JBR. Half board dine around- wonderful food and great choice of restaurants.
We’ve done Aquaventure which was the best water park I have ever been to, it beats Disney! Museum of the Future, which DS loved. Desert safari. Coffee in the clouds at Burj Khalifa.
Lovely week of sun and luxury.

Also extremely glad we didn’t go to Israel!
We would come back here like shot if we can.
Next year though we’re planning Italy and Portugal. Will start a new thread about those.
