Holiday topless sunbathing 2023

Hi there

we are due to go on holiday to Spain this year and I usually sunbathe topless.

this year we are going with my family (my parents, sister and her husband and kids plus my husband and children).

My mum used to sunbathe topless when we were kids and i plan to do the same this year- what people’s thoughts on this?

my husband is fine with it and our kids are totally used to it. my sisters kids are both girls ages 8 and 10.

does anyone think this is an issue?

I wouldn't go topless infront of my BILS or my dad for that matter.

How will your DH feel about your sister being topless infront of him?

honeylulu · 07/05/2023 13:41

I think you'll find it's not so fashionable now and you'll stick out like a sore thumb for a start. You don't want to look a tit do you?

Are your mum and sister going topless too? That might make it a bit more normal I suppose. If it's just you it will look more like you want to show off your boobs assuming you have nice ones!

your kids might be "fine" with it but my auntie used to sunbathe topless on family holidays and eventually when her son got to 10 or 11 he blurted out that it really embarrassed him. After that she only did it whilst the kids were out of the way. But she'd had no idea until he said.

Just get a strapless top and undo the back when you are lying face down.

You do realise that you’re supposed to be ashamed of your body don’t you? Breasts should only be exposed to your partner for sexual reasons and at no other time.
There is a very real danger that the world might end if you go topless.

Bullshot · 07/05/2023 13:44

Nah - keep your top on OP . No one wants wrinkly tits

Holidayperfect · 07/05/2023 13:45

I’d keep my top on in front of parents and BIL. What’s the big need to show off?

Sunbathing topless on a beach or by a pool is 'showing off'?! Jesus!

Fedupandtiredmum · 07/05/2023 13:50

I wouldn't in front of my parents or other family members

This!

Otherwise your parents and sister will probably be cringing live on Mumsnet about it while you lie there!

My sister usually goes topless too so can’t see it being issue with bil.

Well here is your answer.
No one in your family has an issue with topless sunbathing.
Both sets of children are used to it.

If anyth8ng I’d check more what people are doing where you will be in hols. It seems less and less women go topless 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Apart from that, do whatever you want.

Topless or not it's your decision however on recent holidays I've noticed that women don't seem to go topless anymore. Certainly not around the hotel pool and not really at the beach.

Maybe it's because we are more aware of sun damage now. I remember in the 70/80s you would always see a lot of topless women on the beaches in Spain.

Is it much of a done thing these days?

I think it's partly because of so many photos being taken and uploaded to social media.
Topless sunbathing is known to be declining in France.

If you feel this way, what exactly are you asking?

What 'issue' are you foreseeing that you haven't already decided will be fine?

doadeer · 07/05/2023 14:18

My husband would be mortified trying to have a conversation with my sister with her boobs out 😳

BarelyLiterate · 07/05/2023 14:21

I’m noticing fewer women going topless these days, probably due to ubiquitous camera phones & sexist social media rules about women’s nipples. Conversely, I’m noticing more young women going very obviously braless under see through tops to show off their nipple piercings.
To me, it’s a non-issue and women should be free to go topless wherever & whenever men can.

Yes, I was thinking this. Haven't seen it for a few years actually.

I think its uncomfortable. Everyone says it's OK because they want to seem cool with it. But my dad and husband would be..

Crazycrazylady · 07/05/2023 14:28

Honestly I don't see why people feel the ' need' to sunbathe topless. I always assume that people who insist on it are seeking attention jn some way.
I mean yes youre at home and want to avoid tan lines but the fact that you're thinking about and planning it long before you go seems to be that's it's not just for convenience but more to prove a point of some type

It’s just a pair of tits love, if anyone cares enough to comment it’s their hangup.

I used to go topless all the time on holiday, but have not for a few years. I have also noticed far fewer people doing it.

HydrangeaFairy · 07/05/2023 15:20

It was common in the 70s but I haven't seen anyone topless for many years. I thought because we now know the harm of sun damage but actually I think people were more comfortable around nudity in the past.
I think people around you as well as your family would be wondering where to look.

Bananacake1977 · 07/05/2023 16:04

Go topless. In Spain it's natural for the majority of women to be topless on the beach. I don't see a problem with it, as long as you are comfortable then go for it. It's just a pair of boobs...

OMalleysAlley · 07/05/2023 16:27

I'm on holiday right now, more topless women than non-topless.

Do whatever you're comfortable with.

I'm non stop giggling at budgie smugglers though. I can't help it, they're everywhere. DH is quite conspicuous in his baggy shorts.

My friend has skin cancer around her tummy, they call it “holiday cancer” the parts that are less exposed usually and so more likely to burn on holiday are more susceptible for that reason.
