we have decided to travel to one of the italian lakes for a week in july this summer.

i was wondering if anyone had any experiences of which one was best for taking children...mine are 7, 4 and 1.

i nannied in lake orta when i was 17.(a longgggg time ago!).....absolutley gorge, but a little too quiet where i was....

can anyone reccommend a particular area, or better still, an apartment or campsite/hotel to stay in? (i checked out the recommendations on a lake Garda thread WAYYYYY down the page...were lovely, but fully booked or out of our price range )

we have a fairly modest budget of about £550 for a weeks accomodation.....are flying to mianlo malpensa and are renting a car there if that makes a difference.

also, are there any must see places to go when we visit?

any help MUCH appreciated.......

grazia! (did i spell that right?? )

Look at lake garda campsites through selectcamp. (www.selectcamp.com)
Mobile home type accommodation with A/C for under 500 quid per week.
Easy jet fly to Milan Malpensa.

We're thinking of going during the first 2 weeks in June so I have no experience as yet but it looks reasonable and they have kids clubs, pools, etc. My kids are 5 and 2 so I'm casting aside my usual snooty preferences for Tuscan villas in favour of keeping the kids happy and spending the money I save on lots of wine in case I get there, hate it and have to self medicate for the week....

Lake Lugano is lovely - we've stayed several times , lots to do with kids and about an hour from Milan. Agree few Brits , or try Maggiore or Como but have a feeling they are pricier.

Yes there is lots for children (and adults) around Lake Garda especially in the towns along the south east coast. We stayed at Bella Italia campsite in a two bedroom apartment which we booked direct, however, Keycamp, Eurocamp, Siblu etc also offer mobile homes and tents at this site.
