Would you leave a 16 years old dd alone in a hotel in New York for one evening ?

Just wondering ! She is not interested in some of the evening things we want to do. We’d leave her in the hotel, with snacks and tv

At 16 she could travel alone if she wants so yes I would happily leave her in a hotel room.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/05/2023 22:19

I would, IF she's a sensible, responsible 16 year old. I would have her chain the door, and only open the door to you, no one else. I would also be sure that she's able to contact you at any time.

StillWantingADog · 06/05/2023 22:20

If sensible yeah.

Schum · 06/05/2023 22:20

Yes I would.

I’m not sure. I’m usually of the ‘they’ll be grand camp’ but we were in nyc in oct and I wouldn’t want my 26 year old standing outside our really nice 4* hotel alone if there was a fire alarm. Mental health and drugs are a huge issue. It’s a no from me.

Thelondonone · 06/05/2023 22:21

16!! Not 26 but also 26…,

NeatCompactSleeper · 06/05/2023 22:21

Good God yes of course.

Unless you're going to unleash a massive drip-feed.

What do you think might happen to her whilst surrounded by 100s of other guests and staff?

Netaporter · 06/05/2023 22:25

Can you get her to suggest somewhere to go for the evening instead? Else you’ll be worrying and maybe not enjoying as much?. I took my DD to Beauty &Essex in NYC a few years back and she loved it. Cool and quirky. She then suggested Nobu for the next night 🥴

Barbarbarf · 06/05/2023 22:25

I went on a school trip to New York at 15 and we were pretty much left to our own devices on the first night in the hotel. I remember running out for McDonald's..it felt very exciting!! This was 25 years ago.
They'll be fine

gogohmm · 06/05/2023 22:25

Yes unless sen. Left mine aged 12&14 in france as the boring creatures wanted to online game and kept whining about the temperature (apartment had air con) I made them make their own food and had lovely meals out!

Kanaloa · 06/05/2023 22:27

God yes, I’d hope so. I mean some 16 year olds actually live in New York. It’s a city, not the Bermuda Triangle.

TheChosenTwo · 06/05/2023 22:28

Yes I absolutely would. As long as you’re contactable while you’re out I don’t see a problem with this at all.

Matilda1981 · 06/05/2023 22:29

Whaat - I flew to Australia via Bangkok by myself when I was 16! Managed to get to Perth without any dramas and find my hostel - I’m sure she can sit in a hotel room by herself!!!!

SpringPop · 06/05/2023 22:31

Have you seen the film “taken”?!

just joking, I think I would leave if sensible. As long as she can reach you on phone.

quietnightmare · 06/05/2023 22:31

Obviously

CurlewKate · 06/05/2023 22:32

Of course!

MaisieDaisyMay · 06/05/2023 22:35

Yes, unless there's something you haven't mentioned (like SEN) & if you trust her not to go roaming around by herself.

BHRK · 06/05/2023 22:55

Yes of course

EconomyClassRockstar · 06/05/2023 22:58

My kids have been happily walking around NYC since about 13 without any adult help just like millions of other NY teenagers. They’ll be fine.

Nimbostratus100 · 06/05/2023 23:00

depends where in New york

Kiwivicjules · 06/05/2023 23:03

Yes..why not ? We left our 15 year old in Florida for a day whilst we went on a day trip…never crossed my mind not to .

TheApplianceofScience · 06/05/2023 23:07

Not a F*king chance.

Maybe at home, but you know you kind of signed for parental responsibility and this is one of these times.

Tough and all that, but dems the facts.

HauntedPencil · 06/05/2023 23:11

Of course it's fine. She's 16 I went to the reading festival and Glastonbury the year I was 16.

Parental responsibility isn't infanalising them either - unless there is a reason for this?
