Hi, looking to do the eurotunnel August. Never driven in france before so looking for somewhere close but nice to Calais. I will have 2 children age 6 and 9. Would not mind eurocamps but not actually to camp. Staying for probably 5 days.
Any suggestions please.

Driving in France is a doddle.

About 90 mins from Calais - St Valery sur Somme. Very easy drive, mostly on motorway.
Small town on estuary, with historic old section. Lovely to potter round, felt very friendly and safe. Lots of cafes and little shops. Has a little sandy beach. Get the steam train from there round to le Crotoy (bigger beach) or a boat trip out. Has a very flat promenade, good for cycling.
Don’t know about camping but lots of airbnbs.
Not far from Montreuil - where good ramparts walk!

Montreuil is beautiful. Definitely recommended

Wissant - great little seaside town with fantastic beach. Or Bray Dunes or De Panne in Belgium. Again, great beaches on that northern coast. It's a really easy drive.

Check out canvas holidays(cheaper French version of eurocamp), they have some lovely sites about half an hour away from Calais. La Bien Assise is great. The Cote d'opal is a lovely holiday destination.
We often drive to Bruges for a couple of days, we usually stay in a Novotel in the city centre, it's only 90 mins from Calais & the DC love it!

Yes to St Valery sir Somme and Le Crotoy. Both LOVELY.

look up Pierre et Vacances - self catering holiday places on beach at Le Crotoy.

Le Touquet is lovely.

Le Touquet is my favourite (I think I’ve visited nearly every town within a 90min drive from Calais - we go at least 2/3 times a year!). Lovely big beach with lots of sand. Activities on the beach for children, horse riding, forest trails, and amazing for biking (safe, relatively flat, and you can hire bikes with trailers for younger children). Good food, nice places on the beach to sit have have a drink and food whilst the children play in the sand.
