BA Euroflyer

Just had a message that BA are changing our flights to BA Euroflyer and feeling really worried.

I'm a nervous flyer anyway and choose BA specifically.

Not much info about this new airline but sounds like they are a budget airline using older planes and less experienced crew. Does anyone know more?

BA Euroflyer is a fully owned subsidiary of BA, operating short-haul out of Gatwick. It's not a budget airline, it's the same service as BA. But by setting up a separate company they could issue new (lower paid) contracts. Most of the crew will be new but this company launched last summer so they're not all totally wet behind the ears.

NotTodayJose · 03/05/2023 16:27

Surely lower paid crew = less experienced or at very least, less happy.

Also, we paid the price when booking this holiday for "standard" BA. This constitutes a downgrade does it not, all the articles about BA Euroflyer openly describe it as their lower cost airline

This isn't how airlines employ people.

You will get the same aircraft you would have had if they didn't do this. It's a business decision to compete with the low cost airlines. Your safety isn't compromised and you haven't lost out on anything.

I would t give this a second thought.

nirbil · 03/05/2023 16:32

*wouldn't

we got same message NTJ and I feel exactly the same - we bought into (and paid for!) the BA prestige brand that they want us to buy into and have been told we 'don't need to do anything' about being switched to new budget brand with new crews and older planes. Looks like there are mix of BA and Euroflyer flights flying to same destination on same day in some cases (in May from Gatwick) so might see if this is true and ask to switch for relative peace of mind. Don't see how BA can do this when this is not what we bought into - and would have prob chosen easyJet as would be cheaper and is established.

nirbil · 05/05/2023 18:46

The aircraft are not changing.

nirbil · 05/05/2023 18:50

www.planespotters.net/airline/BA-Euroflyer

Scroll down and click on each aircraft link which will show you the history and the fact that they were all BA registered aircraft. These aircraft have been doing short haul BA flights for years.

Hobbi · 05/05/2023 18:50

I'm confused. Are you worried that one of the world's biggest airlines has introduced an element of risk to certain journeys for some reason?

NotTodayJose · 05/05/2023 19:48

No. I'm worried that one of the world's biggest airlines has created a sub brand which has not been running as long as the main brand, does not have exactly the same crew etc and is openly tauted as a budget offering. Yet we paid for the premium version, partly in order to book an airline with an established safety record. What's not to understand there?

OP posts:
Hobbi · 05/05/2023 19:52

What's not to understand? That you simultaneously claim you're not worried about risk and then say you're worried about safety. There will be no difference in safety levels, it seems you don't want to be be seen flying with a low cost airline like some pleb going to Benidorm.

FatArse123 · 05/05/2023 19:58

Is it economy? If so, I don't think it's a downgrade. Standard BA economy is no better than Easyjet in my experience. Maybe even slightly worse, at least on Easyjet the personin front can't recline into me! If it's safety that's your main concern, I wouldn't worry, standards are so high across the board. I get it though, I used to be a very nervous flyer.

Bankholidayboredom23 · 05/05/2023 20:05

We had that email and a couple of days later one saying it will be operated by Avion Express, a Lithuanian company! Was OK with the first email, less happy about the latest one. I would have booked easyjet if I'd known, to ensure I at least knew what I was getting.

You could just as easily end up in an Avion express aircraft if you book easyJet anyway.

nirbil · 05/05/2023 20:28

does not have exactly the same crew etc

OP what do you mean by this?

Not exactly the same? They all do the same training...

Omg how long ago did you receive that and for which destination?

OP posts:
NotTodayJose · 08/05/2023 08:55

Well it now turns out loads of people who get the message about changing to EuroFlyer later get an email saying their flight will be chartered by Avion Express instead of BA, which is even worse.

OP posts:
LesLavandes · 08/05/2023 09:08

OP. Please don't make a fuss about Avion Express. It's unpleasant for others who are nervous flyers and already have had their flights changed to Avion Express from BA

How is it worse?

DibbleDooDah · 08/05/2023 09:39

Pre covid one of our flights was changed from BA to Titan Airways. I was initially a bit peeved but actually we had a much newer aircraft and the service etc was exactly the same as we had with BA on the way out.

If you are flying economy then you honestly have nothing to worry about.

Chchchchangingg · 08/05/2023 09:40

I've flown euroflyer tens of times - that's pretty much all that comes out of City airport. Only noticeable difference I'd the planes are slightly smaller.

That's city flyer.

D'oh. Yes, that would make sense.

Backs out of thread

TizerorFizz · 08/05/2023 10:51

I think BA train all their cabin staff to the same standard. Plus, more importantly, the pilots!!!! Flying is safer than crossing the road. Just sit in an aisle seat. Don’t look out. Book business if you can. Less likely to move you!
