BA Euroflyer

Just had a message that BA are changing our flights to BA Euroflyer and feeling really worried.

I'm a nervous flyer anyway and choose BA specifically.

Not much info about this new airline but sounds like they are a budget airline using older planes and less experienced crew. Does anyone know more?

Well it now turns out loads of people who get the message about changing to EuroFlyer later get an email saying their flight will be chartered by Avion Express instead of BA, which is even worse.

Worse how?

TizerorFizz · 08/05/2023 10:52

Also, with all the issues last summer, I would be pleased if a flight leaves on time and the airport is working efficiently!

OP. Please don't make a fuss about Avion Express. It's unpleasant for others who are nervous flyers and already have had their flights changed to Avion Express from BA

I'm an incredibly nervous flyer myself hence why expressing the fact I am worried about this.

What are you worried about, exactly?

MaggieFS · 08/05/2023 16:11

I think we had this on one of flights last year. We also certainly had one flight switched to Iberia.

I was also initially really pissed off, thinking we wouldn't get what we'd paid for etc. but actually they were all fine.

I'm not sure a keep worries to yourself approach is the purpose of an online forum? I'm equally happy to be told by people in the know that Avion Express are an awesome airline equally level with BA, I'm just stressed about it currently

@NotTodayJose

The brand is exactly the same. The main difference is the crews work to worse terms and conditions for poorer wages. BA have always done this, having had many wholly owned subsidiaries over the years.

I obsessively check crash records etc of all airlines before I'll fly, so to be switched out to an airline that don't tend to feature in the Top Safest Airlines reports is very concerning for me when that's what I've specifically paid for. I may be very stupid but hadn't realised you could pay for one thing and just be switched out to a totally different carrier with little to no option.

I'm not fussed about brand from a prestige sense, only in terms of safety. In my mind, crews working for worse terms and worse paid surely equates to higher chance of incidents? I hope they're not skimping on the actual pilots.

I'm a nervous flyer (and BA has switched my next flight to Euroflyer) but it doesn't really bother me.

I've just checked my seating map and it's the same sized plane (at the moment). I've also had better experiences with other airlines such as Titan (more legroom and nicer seats)"

80sgirly · 08/05/2023 16:52

Avion Express are doing some flights for BA over the summer, but by no means all.,... chances are you won't get them!

gogohmm · 08/05/2023 16:54

To be honest, if you are nervous in the future book EasyJet, so easy, lovely staff, friendly and you check in way ahead unlike ba for free, got seats next to each other without paying extra etc

GeraltsBathtub · 08/05/2023 16:55

Of course there will be no difference in safety - it would tarnish the entire BA brand. But nothing anyone says on here will comfort you because that’s not how phobias work, they are irrational. If you can afford it, I’d look into a couple of therapy sessions to give you the tools to stop obsessing.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 08/05/2023 16:58

Our flights have also been changed to Avion.

Frankly as long as they still serve me a whopping gin and tonic like BA normally do, I don't care. It's a two hour flight. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LesLavandes · 08/05/2023 16:58

So OP. You are being selfish imo - worrying others who may also be flying with these airlines on a major subject called 'safety'.

Fair enough to think twice about you flying but you shouldn't suggest there might be an issue to others. BA wouldn't use dodgy airlines

Moredarkchocolateplease · 08/05/2023 16:59

And honestly BA wouldn't sub contract a shit airline. Reputations to consider.

80sgirly · 08/05/2023 16:59

I've tried to copy and paste, but for some reason can't do it so can't quote you @NotTodayJose
However, to reassure you, pilots and cabin crew for Euroflyer receive the same standard of training as mainline BA. Lots of the crew at Euroflyer have come from other airlines and are experienced.
I don't know anything about Avion Express, sorry.

dig135 · 08/05/2023 17:03

I'm not sure whether this will soothe or worry but, frankly, plenty of the BA planes are on the older side. There was a piece of metal hanging down in the cabin on my recent trans Atlantic flight that creaked back and forth the whole flight.

I'm also funny about who I'll fly with but I wouldn't fear this change. Also summer flying tends to be calmer skies and less chance of turbulence (which is my big fear).

plasticpens · 08/05/2023 17:09

The irony of the fact that so many actual (since this seems to be OP problem) BA cabin crew are on shit terms etc since they fired a load in 2020 and rehired them on worse contracts than ever.

You know people can't just launch an airline and throw any old shite up, right? There are standards that must be adhered to, for all.

I believe your email should mention getting in touch with BA if you are unhappy with the change so perhaps that might be your better option.

Hang on. OP has every right to start a thread to discuss her worries! Other nervous flyers should take responsibility for their anxiety, and either avoid the thread, or leave as soon as they realise what it is.

plasticpens · 08/05/2023 17:12

God that post read awful - when I said any old shite I was referring to aircraft. I just read it again and realised it may look like I mean staff Blush

BillyNoM8s · 08/05/2023 17:22

All airlines flying into and out of UK airports have to meet certain safety standards. Unsafe airlines are banned.

Euroflyer is a subsidiary of BA so it's essentially the same thing. The aircraft are BA aircraft.

Cabin crew don't leave doors unlocked and sabotage life vests because they earn less than other airline crew.

Most airlines have had some sort of incident at some point in their history. Even those with great safety records.

Flying is low risk.

The only thing I'd potentially be annoyed about is if a Euroflyer booking would've been cheaper than the BA one you made originally.

I find most short haul offerings from the UK to be crusty and tired aircraft/interiors.

Thank you, yes that's reassuring. Like @dig135 I've had a look at the seating - although I'm glad I did as they wouldn't have told me they'd moved all my pre-paid seats and I'm v funny about where ill sit too so that wouldn't have been good! I think I have just about talked myself round to the idea of Euroflyer being ok as it's still BA. Not so OK with Avion Express if it comes to that.
