Recommendations for a holiday with DH in Europe in late June/early July

Please recommend me and DH an easy laid back holiday abroad without the teens and without blowing the budget for end of June/ early July. For four to seven days. Thinking maybe Croatia, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Spain, France would also maybe consider a city break.

Would like a short flight, laid back vibe, nice restaurants and bars, close to the sea or a lake, nice walks, nice scenery. Will be flying from either Scotland, North East, North West or Leeds. Ideally Jet2 with a link to hotel or apartment etc.

Many thanks

https://www.hlapalma.it/en/sky-bar/ Lake Maggiore - close to Milan airport.
https://hotelvisavis.com/en/ via Pisa or Genoa.
Both have lots of restaurants in vicinity, boat trips, days out etc.

Sky Bar

Prendete l'ascensore e lasciatevi incantare dallo spettacolo che vi troverete di fronte quando si apriranno le porte al settimo piano.

Anymore please?

Ok so Jet2 have some offers to Halkidki, Thessalonica, Palma, Paphos, Santorini, Zante, Crete and Benalmedena from a fairly local airport but never been to any of them except a brief visit to Palma in a drunken haze when I was 18? Does anyone have any thoughts on any of them and which would be coolest or with more chance of a breeze in late June/early July.

Paphos would be wonderful that time of year

Thessaloniki is a fabulous city for a city break, amazing food scene, lovely to wander around and some really nice hotels.

BeeBB · 04/05/2023 15:00

Oh no I was hoping it would be unanimous. Thanks for the replies so far.

I've been to Santorini in July and it was hot but not unbearable but I don't mind the heat. It was probably one of my favourite holidays, to make it cheap we stopped by the airport so not in the capital (Thira) or Oia which is where the white buildings are. We rented a quad bike and travelled the island each day (it takes 40 minutes to get from one side to the other). It's a gorgeous place and would absolutely love to go back when we don't have young children.

I went to Zante when I was 18 so can't really comment how nice it was as I spent the whole week on the strip, however, my mother is going for a second time this year as she loves it. She says it's very chilled and just a lovely Greek country as you'd expect.

I would recommend Corfu, for somewhere relaxed and a nice with places to walk to look at St George's which is south of the island. We holidayed there a number of times and just loved it. We stopped nearer Corfu town last year but wasn't a lot around to walk to you had to get a bus in to the town.

Radisson Blur just outside Dubrovnik. Beautiful spa, lovely water for swimming, perfect for a few days.

Kefalonia

FrenchandSaunders · 04/05/2023 15:44

Athena Hotel, Karavomylos, by the sea. Very basic but clean and run by a super friendly guy who can't do enough for you. We paid £400 each for flights, transfers and breakfast end of June/beg July last year .... just me and DH for a week (left our teens behind as well!).

You can use the hotel next door for the swimming pool/bar/food in the day (owned by his brother). The Athena has a bar at night.

Walk along the beach to Sami, loads of traditional greek tavernas with sea views and very reasonable prices. Can also hire a car quite cheaply to explore the beautiful island. We love it.

FrenchandSaunders · 04/05/2023 15:45

Sorry meant to say the island is Kefalonia!

FrenchandSaunders · 04/05/2023 15:45

Oh I did 😁

I love Alykanas on Zante, Valais hotel is small and family run, right on the beach.

We had a nice holiday last June flying to Verona and staying for a couple of nights then travelled to Lake Garda. We rented a great apartment in Malcesine on the north eastern side of the lake. Beautiful views of the Lake and also The Dolomites (I think) to the north. We didn't hire a car, instead we zigzagged across the lake on various ferries visiting many of the little lakeside towns. A nice mix of city break with history, culture etc and relaxation/sun by the lake.

Ixia on Rhodes is a good option, close to Rhodes town on the bus.

Don’t want anything too tiring or onerous due health or too expensive but it really needs to be a package on this occasion.

Jet2 have fairly reasonable offers on holidays at the moment to Halkidik, Benalmadena, Zante, Kefalonia, Thessalonika, Palma, Alonissos Island, Lefkas and Paphos? Where would you go or not go in late June/early July and where has a cooling breeze and nice restaurants.

Thanks don’t really need all the family facilities this time around :-( or AI but also don’t want to be too far away and the last one sounds a bit far out for us. DH has some health issues so want a nice easy gentle walk to restaurants to the front etc.

Benalmadena is hilly from the beach to the town and one street from the beach towards town has been nicknamed Cardiac Hill by locals.

It is a nice place but if you stay near the beach and want to go to town it is a short taxi ride away, local buses but not very often on that route. On that Coast Fuengirola is flat easy walking and not that far from the Airport.

Another vote for Dubrovnik!

thaisweetchill · 04/05/2023 21:57

I'd recommend the second link in my earlier reply then OP. It's a short flat walk to nearby restaurants, it's gorgeous there.

BeeBB · 07/05/2023 17:05

Thanks visited Dubrovnik last year. Fancied Hvar but too pricey, budget ideally between 1k up to just over 2k (flying from the very north Scotland/England so the flight choice is less plentiful and much more expensive.
