I have just under 48 hours in Madrid by myself- dh will be free from 8pm in the evenings but otherwise occupied.
Not staying very central so need to factor in travel but I have no idea where to go and what to do- any advice would be much appreciated!

The Matadero is their equivalent of the Tate Modern. Is has some excellent pieces of art and there’s usually some kind of immersive exhibition on too. We also loved Ikono.

Thank you! Feel slightly nervous at navigating around on my own but embracing the challenge!

I'd just get a hop on, hop off open top bus. That way you will see most places on day one, and can go back day two to explore the bits that interest you. Madrid is great, make sure to have an (expensive) coffee in Plaza Mayor!

Do you like art? Madrid has some World class galleries. The Retiro is a great place to walk around and have a coffee or snack. Which area are you staying in? I live in Madrid.

I'm staying very close to the airport.
I do like art but one or two visits is probably enough for me! I'm more into wandering and exploring- the hop on/ off bus sounds like a good idea, thank you
