DD has Irish passport and we want to head to Ireland in august. Her passport expires in dec is there enough validity on it?

Fair enough, but can you think of another reason they wouldn’t let me check in with a less than 3 month validity Irish passport then? I even tried checking in with the wrong expiry date, which did give 3 months validity, and that was accepted into the system (but obviously I removed it, because it was incorrect and would’ve been flagged at boarding and just used her UK passport instead)?

you don't say where you were travelling to, but if it was to any EU state, there is no reason I know of.

Not only do I know the law inside out, I have travelled 3 times in the last 2 months on my Irish passport that expires in a couple of weeks (my new one is on the way). I've had no issue checking in and travelling on Ryanair, Aer Lingus and TAP.

So @boromu222 you would go on the passport out of date in dec?

Absolutely. No reason at all not to.

I mean, its an Irish passport going to Ireland (for the first mentioned trip), even if it wasn't EU law (it is), why would Ireland require 3 months validity to go to Ireland? What would be the objective there?
The whole point of validity periods is that you have enough time on your passport to leave the country again. But an Irish person in Ireland doesn't ever have to leave....(same point for any EU citizen in the EU, basically so same goes for your trip to Spain).

Right now we are trying for Spain in October, passport still expires in dec will it be ok for travel from uk to Spain?

This is fine - within the EU if you have an EU passport you can travel up to the date of expiry. There is only an issue with UK passports that need to have 3 months extra on them.

'Irish passports do not have a minimum validity requirement while travelling to the UK or within the EU. When travelling within Europe with an Irish passport, it should be valid for the duration of your stay. '

I honestly don’t know if I can risk it.
@oc21 got pulled and was just over 3 months 🙃

there isn't any risk. PP just met a dope who wasn't trained. If that happened, you just ask for a supervisor .

There is nothing wrong with the passport. It's in date. It's valid for travel to Ireland and any EU destination.
