Stockholm

We've got about 36 hours in Stockholm coming up, hotel already sorted in Vasastan area. We'll have an afternoon and evening and then a full day, leaving very early the morning after that so only one night to go 'out out' as it were.

Any top tips for things not to miss, or things to skip and save our precious time?

Tak in advance Smile

Do you have DC with you?

FettleOfKish · 29/04/2023 13:25

Sorry that would have been useful info here!

No we don't.

If you like Abba, the Abba Museum is great. The Vasa Ship Museum is also around there. Boat trip round the Archipelago also good.

If you are only going to visit one museum in Stockholm, it needs to be the Vasa Museum. Allow 2 hours, although you could easily spend 4!
Definitely walk through Gamla Stan, making sure you go into Stortorget square and past the Royal Palace and Stockholm Cathedral. To the north of Gamla Stan, there’s the amazing Östermalm Market Hall where you can spend ages just browsing, but it’s definitely worth timing it with lunch or an early dinner.

Vasa
Gamala Stan and Royal Palace

It's a lovely place to visit

If it's still the Ice the hotel by the train station is excellent.
Yes to the Vasa.
Skansen is also lovely and walkable, did it in November so I'm sure it will be even nicer in May!

Pashazade · 29/04/2023 17:10

I'll try that again...
The Ice Bar in the bottom of the hotel by the train station!

Don’t miss the Vasa. Other than that it’s a lovely city, public transport is easy to use and the food is great.

The boat trip is good

Thank you all! Vasa is a definite then, and I was already thinking about a canal boat trip Smile

Yes to the Vasa museum and the palace. I'd also see if there's anything on at the Royal Swedish Opera. The building itself is beautiful and they also show ballets.

Skansen is really interesting (and fun). Part of it is an open-air museum of how life in Sweden used to be, with old buildings and actors, including a working blacksmith.

Getting a Stockholm Card is a good investment.

@FettleOfKish
The Vasa is superb. The boat trip out to the archipelago is also interesting. Lots of good ideas above but no one has mentioned the Swedish History museum. It has the most amazing Viking Gold room. Worth it just for that! Have fun!
