Dealing with jetlag in a 3yr old

In a few weeks we are flying off to NW America. We have a direct 12 hour flight. The time difference is 9 hours. How can we help our nearly 3yr old deal with the time zones. We leave London at 2pm and land at 2am UK time...5pm USA time. She is a rubbish sleeper as it is (still never slept through the night). We are hoping she'll nap a bit by 10pm UK time and sleep till we get off the plane. Should we wake her then and put her straight onto USA time and then go to bed normal time?
We are going to take her buggy with us so she can sleep in the day if she needs to...whether we can get her in the buggy or not is another matter!
Thanks
