Car hire help please! Malaga airport

Hi,
We're going on a family holiday in a couple of months and flying into Malaga which is somewhere I've never been.
We're really stuck with which car hire company to use!

I'm thinking Key'n Go as they're onsite but they are more expensive. My husband is thinking take the risk and go cheap with GoldCar or RecordGo but their reviews are shocking!!
Budget, Avis etc are ridiculously expensive in comparisson.
The other option is to hire a minibus rather than 2 cars (6 of us plus lots of luggage) with Alamo which would mean transfers from the airport - the return flight is 6am and we have 2 small children so wonder if this is more hassle than it's worth?
Does anyone have experience hiring a car here that can advise on the best company to use please?

They are efficient, reasonable and they do hire from Malaga airport. It saves having to stand in a massive long line at the car hie desks at the airport as a guy just meets you in arrivals and sorts the paperwork there and takes you straight to the car, no waiting.

We normally use Del Paso car hire - although have used others. There is a street just outside the airport with a line of them in a row - they will all send a courtesy coach to the airport and it's less than 5 mins drive. A lot cheaper than one actually on site at the airport .

There is a thread under holidays from a couple of months back - there was one care hire company recommended by several posters , I can't remember what it was but see if you can find the thread .

I think it would probably be Malaga Crs which was recommended. We used them last summer and they were really good and have good reviews. They were cheap, honest and had free cancellation. Worth checking prices after you've booked in case pirces drop then you can cancel and re book. Only downside was getting the mini bus to the car hire as no one queued properly so was a bit of a bun fight!

They have 7/9 seater which could be an option?

It's short 2 min minibus ride to the airport. We've had early flights and kids in tow and no issues as minibus takes you right to departures so no more time than parking up etc

We used gold car and they were appalling. Really bad. We’ve also used Helle Hollis who were very good but more expensive. They are off airport but their courtesy bus was easy to find.
we had to wait in a huge queue at the gold car desk anyway so the on airport option was no quicker.

Has anyone used Key'n Go?? They're part of Goldcar but the few reviews I've seen look pretty good. Could only find a few though so not sure if they're genuine!

We're staying in Vinuela. Overlooking the lake and mountains, the views look amazing!

I used RecordGo from Malaga....admittedly read the reviews after and was worried. But, they were fine! The car had some scuffs, etc, but just photo everything, and you'll be fine.

My family and I go to Malaga every year and we all alway use Malaga Car, they’re the best!

Helle Hollis.

Used Malagacar once and they were terrible. Expected DSS (9) to squeeze onto a seat/on knee without a seatbelt in the minibus and we’re really shitty when we refused. Massive disorganised queue. Helle Hollis have a ticket machine and really pleasant staff.

I always use Helle Hollis. It’s off site but 2 mins away in a mini bus that runs constantly. Pick up and drop off is super quick and easy. Price is good. Cars might not be brand new but they don’t really check for every tiny mark when you return them so very worry free.

Do not use Gold Car ...they are a bunch of crooks . I live in Spain and our local FB group is always posting horrendous stories about Gold Car and thier partner companies. I think they are all bad along the coast . Ive used Record not at Malaga but Alicante.

Don't be put off by the office being off airport. It's only usually a few minutes transfer and the queues at the desk could be far less than those at the airport (plus I agree that you're right to avoid Goldcar and Record if you can).

Although if you're driving a reasonable distance, it sounds like you'll use the fuel so won't lose out if they do full/empty fuel policy.

The other ways to not get tripped up is to buy your extra insurance in the UK, but then you must have a spare credit card with a good limit to put the 1000+ euro deposit that you'll have to pay on.

I think Malaga Car are supposed to be OK, or there's the big international brands.

The minibus we nearly booked has gone up by over £700!!!!! I need to stop dithering and just book now. We'll probably have to go back to 2 smaller cars.

Gold Car, wherever the operate out of, tend to get terrible reviews. Just terrible.
